September 28, 200322 yr and have decided to bin fs2004...i really do not know what else i can do,nothing works, the one tweak that gave a slight improvement was the autogen tweak.but you know what:i'm done tweaking,i'm going to fly,cos thats why i bought those sims after all.and,to silence the bashers beforehand:i am convinced it is my computer, and not the game, that is playing havoc with fs2004...and for the life of me,i don't understand what the h*** is wrong with it,because i run fs2002 with every slider maxed, except ai,that is off,and i get 20fps everywhere...in fs2004 however, even with every slider to the left, and every switch off,i get a measly 8 fps, with 10 second pauses every ten seconds...however,i'm done tweaking,i'm going flying,fs2002 still looks great imho...thanks for letting me vent,i needed that, and please,no replies,i don't need them ;-)i'll be flying :-lolgood weekend y'all
September 28, 200322 yr Crashing Pilot. Before you bale out, I know you have, like others including myself, had enough of FS2004, but I tried the following and have had a big improvement in FPS, around 15 to 20 in flight and still manage around 9 to 12 on landing with add-on scenery (UK2000).1. I downloaded via a search on Google a limited time before you buy Disk Defragmentor, this took around 2hours to sort my drive out, but wow what a change to the sim, no more waiting for screen updates, smooth FPS while banking, a pleasure to fly.2. I found a suggestion about the USB port for the joystick being a problem, I tested this by unplugging my CH yoke while in steady flight and saw a big jump in FPS. So I downloaded the MS fix for the USB problem, I cant remember the number, but once installed again an instant 5 FPS.3 I've installed most of the other tweaks posted with limited impact, the above two have saved the day for FS2004 as it was about to be assigned to dusty bin.Although I still cant cure the problem of switching from full screen to window mode and loading other software and then having the black screen of death appear, but I have a work around for that in staying in window mode.Hope the above helps, if not your self then maybe someone else.Stay flying and keep crashing.
September 28, 200322 yr i sincerely hope it helps someone else, but i'm bailing out mate...nothing helps,so i'm giving up on it..i'll try again when i've got a new system(in ten years or so ;-) )thanks for the advice, but needless to say,it did not help me.off to do some more flying, having fun,
September 28, 200322 yr I still use FS2002 myself, thanks to all my freeware/payware aircraft that hasn't been upgraded for FS2004, or the fact that I havn't bothered to install available upgrades.BUT.............. as to FS2004, I havn't "tweaked" anything, except for a few scenery additions. And a dawn flight around the mountainous KLSC region this morning in my newly uploaded freeware F-16 was a rather marvelous "PC" experience! From the texture of the lakes, haze on the horizon, and sunrise/shadow effects of the mountains.......... along with respectable frame-rates & fluidness of flight, it's been all very worthwhile!Whether I've been lucky, or my nearly two year old Athlon PC was just a good one to start with, I don't know...But I havn't had nearly the problems some others have mentioned. Still no hurry to upgrade either.L.Adamson ---- Athlon1900XP/Geforce3Ti500/512DDRram 21"NEC monitor/1600*1200*32 resolutionSunrise --- F16 & KSLC/KPVU area

September 28, 200322 yr .............just one more pic! :)Maybe it's just avoiding those dense, framerate hogging airports...but closing up on this AI commercial airliner was quite a "rush" considering it's just desktop PC "fun"!!L.Adamson
September 29, 200322 yr Well I'm glad I'm not the only one. I fiddled and tweaked and cursed and pulled my hair out.I loved the clouds in FS9 but I wanted my VFR UK Photo scenery to look as good as it did in FS2002. It wasn't going to happen so FS9 has goneback to the store and I have put fs2002 back on and just take a look at this. A main rd junction not a mile from my house here in Cardiff. Wales. Now this is what VFR flight should always be like.Wycliffe
September 29, 200322 yr Author I know you've already thrown in the towel... but the one thing that leaps out at me, is the 256 Meg memory... I also have a Ti4200 and have great results.. but you really do need to go to 512 Meg memory (not a lot of $$s BTW) to get FS2004 to perform properly..If you ever go that route, install the 30.82 drivers for your Ti4200 and enjoy!
