October 22, 201015 yr Hello all,I currently have my settings at FPS unlimited, but I hear alot of people on this forum refer to "FPS Limiter" ... does it actually work? Where can I download it?Thanks,
October 22, 201015 yr FPS Limiter is not for increasing FPS but for stability.Because FSX tries to load more sceneries when your fps gets higher, your video card will crash...The actual setting: set FSX's internal limiter: UNLIMITED and use an external limiter software to limit fps around 30.Of course you can use FSX's one, but fps will drop when you are in heavy loads.
October 22, 201015 yr Hello all,I currently have my settings at FPS unlimited, but I hear alot of people on this forum refer to "FPS Limiter" ... does it actually work? Where can I download it?Thanks,It doesn't increase fps it only provides a smoother flight vs locking fps in-game.The in-game locking mechanism does nothing for me... so I have to use FPS limiter bat file. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
October 22, 201015 yr Hello all,I currently have my settings at FPS unlimited, but I hear alot of people on this forum refer to "FPS Limiter" ... does it actually work? Where can I download it?Thanks,FSX works on a 'per-frame' basis (like most complex 3D apps/games), this means that each and every frame displayed will 'draw' something onto your screen. The 'average' is to have around 20-30 frames displayed EACH second, the MORE frames you display EACH second the more WORK your CPU and GPU will have to do to keep up.What the above means, is that if you let your FSX run freely (say, above 40-50 FPS) there will be times were it will dip below the 20's or even the 10's because resource utilization was NOT linear, is was based in PEAK utilization periods and this caused FSX to stutter badly.By using a LIMITER you are simply putting a leash to FSX so it always keep things 'linear' (or close to) when it comes to resource utilization. So, to the question: is an EXTERNAL FPS limiter a good idea? of course it is! the 'INTERNAL' limiter in FSX does take away too much CPU cycles and this will affect payware A/C and scenery, so you are better off having the FSX option set to unlimited but using the external (FPS limiter) as an aid as explained above.Aditionally, you'll have to set the EXTERNAL limiter to a value that is either half or 1/3 of your monitor refresh rate, otherwise you'll see high fluctuations in frames per second and this will eventually be perceived as 'stutters'
October 22, 201015 yr Aditionally, you'll have to set the EXTERNAL limiter to a value that is either half or 1/3 of your monitor refresh rate, otherwise you'll see high fluctuations in frames per second and this will eventually be perceived as 'stutters'First of all, I use the external limiter all the time and am very happy with it.In addition to smoothness and stability, the limiter lets my CPU run cooler which I appreciate. Question re the monitor refresh rate, however. I run at either 24 or 30 and either is smooth, so Iam not seeing the "stutters".. I've also read that FSX buffers the monitor refresh so that the "multiple"consideration is not necessary.. Any opinions? Bert
October 22, 201015 yr I've also read that FSX buffers the monitor refresh so that the "multiple"consideration is not necessary.. Any opinions?True, when using BufferPools (aka vertex buffers), but for those who use UsePools=0 is NOT the case.
October 22, 201015 yr True, when using BufferPools (aka vertex buffers), but for those who use UsePools=0 is NOT the case.Got it! Thanks! :( Bert

October 23, 201015 yr *******.What external frame rate limiter do you use or recommend?Alsop, do you have a link?Bill Clark Windows 10 Pro, Ver 21H2 CPU I5-8600K 5.0GHz, GPU Nvidia RTX 3090 VRAM 24GB Gigabyte Z370 Gaming 7, 2TB M2.NVMe, RAM 32GB
October 23, 201015 yr Glider-people please note...In FSX and using CumulusX, I believe that FPSLimiter 'kills' the lift algorithm and there is no thermal lift despite the presence of Peter Leurkins' CumulusX clouds and CumulusX running connected and with green lights indicating auto-thermal generation.Further I believe that FPSLimiter is the only program of its kind currently available.I stand to be corrected and would be glad if someone else would test this.P
