So how does the PMDG 737NGX compare to...

Recommended Posts

Dont know if asked before, but will this come with all stuff printed like the MD-11?Operation Manual and such :)
I sure hope so. Given the amount of details and systems modeling, nothing will compliment this baby better than a good set of printed manuals! I would be more than happy to add them to my cart.

They said they were doing printed manuals if I recall correctly.I think this might have been asked and rejected at some point, but I still think a sticky FAQ for the NGX would help answer a lot of these redundant questions that have been answered time and again.

Are there going to be a tutorial flight PDF for the NGX that you can follow? I mean something like Wilco did for their Airbus series. Or at least complete official checklist?Tried to find that for your 747, but I have not bought it, so maybe its supplied in the package.Looking forward to release... :)

Actually I don't agree! :D iPad is the way to go! You can put ALL your manuals there for all your airplanes, use Noahs app to have all kinds of charts for the US instantly available (sectionals, terminal, enroute) and the rest stored on the iPad. If you are bored during that long cruise you can bring up a video on it or play an ATC game, read a book etc I have printed many thousand pages of manuals that I now have on the bookshelf and all of them could be replaced by the iPad. Actually the printing cost for those manuals far exceed what I paid for the iPad. Only problem is fighting for possession of it with the kids, not to mention the wife! Sorry for going OT..

I will still buy the printed manuals. There is nothing like being able to flip to a tab and highlight a particular figure or phrase, etc. Plus it adds realism to the experience. But mainly, I like the ability to have a real printed copy. It is so much easier for me to use and reference. I know I'm old school but hey. If I remember right, Capt. Randazzo mentioned that they were planning on offering printed manuals, and that he thought that they would be more popular than the MD-11 manuals because they will not be so expensive. Bear in mind that I could be totally wrong with my last statement, so please don't hold me to it. Just my 2 cents on the matter of the manuals. :)

Hmm, this Ipad seems like a good idea, With regards to the manuals, is it easy to add the manuals from PMDG and other company's easily to the device?

The iPad is exceptional for viewing manuals, I couldn't live without it, even just for that purpose.
This is a webpage with links to a buckload of iPad and iPhone apps related to flying although mainly IRL.Ethan, I fully understand what you are saying and concur that for the feeling nothing beats having actual papers to turn. However, I just have too many manuals to handle and especially for charts the iPad is so smooth! You don't have to keep track of which charts have been updated since the link points to the latest ones (at least with Noahs app) and the ink cost is kinda small! :D What I am waiting for is manuals with interactive content where eg some of the pics are actually videos. That would communicate better with my primitive brain... Again, sorry for taking it OT but I just feel so enthusiastic for the iPad. :Party:Dylan,I must say that although the iPad is very convenient in many ways, they have also managed to make it soo frustrating in other ways. For instance, you don't have a file manager (at least if you haven't jailbreaked the device) and if you have made eg a pdf available to a certain app that reads pdf-files, the same document is not available to other pdf-reading apps - they don't share the same storage area... Most transfers are best done using iTunes (eg if you want to use Goodreader for reading pdf-files) but there are alternatives like dropbox or in some cases the app has a program that communicates over WiFi with a small server software you run on a computer (iRead PDF). It's not difficult per se to transfer PDF manuals to the device, but it does involve IMO unnecessary hazzle.Edit: I can add also that there are no slots for memory cards in the iPad and you can't use the USB port to connect an external drive.

Except, where I would love to read them, on the beach tanning my skin. Not bright enough under the sun and shut down because of the heat... :(Benjamin

I don't think you need 30 000 Pdf player on your computer :(, But some file are "too complex" and must be read with Book from apple

GoodReader have Wifi transfer now !The real missing possibility on the Ipad is to send Simconnect data into the GPS, to be able to use Great program like Foreflight or Air navigation pro.Benjamin

That is very true and the glass is also very reflective. If you have a light source behind you it will often make you twisting and turning the iPad to get the angle right and the information readable.

That's the main problem really, although I haven't used it outside very often. I use GoodReader for viewing PDF's. They've just released an update which makes panning/zooming in PDF's much smoother. Transferring them is easy too; you can do it wirelessly, or drag and drop via iTunes (no need to actually sync by the way, you just drag and drop into the app files, and it's pretty much instant).
