October 3, 200322 yr Hi GuysI have the following setupFS9System:Asus A7N8X-X nForce2 400Mhz MoboTwinmos 512Meg Ram 3200AMD 2600+ 333MHzCreative Sounblaster LiveWindows XP ProI upgraded from a Creative GeForce 3 Ti200 to a Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600Pro Fireblade.Holy smokes, the performance is amazing. I about 10FPS better than before. I get about 30 in 2D Cockpit and about 15 to 20 in Virtual cockpit and this is with PMDG 737NG.Oh and it is not even overclocked yet :)Apart from the flickering of the loading screens an menus sometimes, I am very happy indeed.CheersGian
October 3, 200322 yr Congratulations with your new videocard. It sounds nice.I just upgraded from 256 MB to 512 MB RAM, and that was a giant leap in performance, too.My next investment will become the Creative Live soundcard, and then later on a new videocard like you.Regards,Nico
October 3, 200322 yr Are you running that card in windowed or full screen mode? Have you found any difference in FR between the two modes? I've been running mine in windowed mode because I use undocked windows across multiple monitors, awaiting the next edition of the ATI drivers to clear up some of the full screen issues.
October 3, 200322 yr Wow great to hear. And great timing. I'll install my Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600Pro Fireblade in a few hours. :)Oh and next ATI driver release should be in a week or so.
October 3, 200322 yr I run it in full Window mode. Great to hear there are new drivers on the way!!!!!RegardsGian
October 3, 200322 yr Hi TimGreat to hear and let me know how it went and what you think!!!!CheersGian
October 3, 200322 yr Hi GianLike youself, i've have just upgraded my old GeForce 3 Ti 200 to a Radeon 9600Pro (a Connect3D one though) but now my performance has dropped through the floor !!! i'm seeing approx 6fps (21 down to 15) less for a given saved flight at gary summons stansted airport.I performed a system restore back to my old card and the original 21fps returned.I've spent the last week installing new drivers (both ati and omega) new agp drivers, tweaking AA and AF settings but i just can't see any improvement. Was wondering if there's any thing i missed during the installation you may be able to point out.Btw, all remnents of the previous nvidia drivers were removed using a utility called nasty file remover.RegardsGary
October 3, 200322 yr Hi GarySorry to hear of the troubles.Well, I also used the NSF to remove the leftover NVidia files. I didn't even use the driver cd that I got with the box but immediately installed the Catalyst drivers from ATI which I think is 3.7.Also check that with the ATI control panel you untick all of the ticks stating that Anitsotropic(spelling) is not dictated by the application but set it to whatever settings you require, I did for D3D4X for Anti Aliasing and 2 for the Anti... or maybe it was vice versa, sorry at work, can't remeber, but definitaly untick the options next to them, if that makes sense.Let me know.RegardsGian
October 3, 200322 yr Hi GianThanks for the advice, infortunately, i've already tried exactly what you suggested through the ATI control panel have both the AA and AF settings at minimum (labled as "Performance") and have definitely unchecked the "controlled by application" (not sure of the exact wording). I know this is working as adjusting AA and AF from within FS2002 has no effect.I've also tried catalyst 3.7 and saw no difference. I'm beginning to wonder if i've got a faulty card as before puchasing it, i read several forum posts stating how good a card it was.Just one more thing, would it be worth removing the driver for the second monitor or would this make no difference ?RegardsGary
October 3, 200322 yr Hi GaryI am afraid I don't know, since I have still both of them listed as well. Try using these two boards and see what replies you get as the posters here are pretty clued up.http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/community/forums/http://www.amdforums.comPost under both of the video card sections.Hopefully they might sort you out. Let me knowRegardsGian
October 3, 200322 yr Author Moderator Put this in the FWIW area but I also was having problems installing various drivers. I was using NFR also. Ultimately tracked down my problems to the NFR. For some reason, when it removed the various files it caused some of the new drivers to have problems.Tried the same drivers but did a manual removal and install and they worked perfectly.Tried again using NFR and they failed. The system was:XP2700+A7N8X/333fsb1G pc2700 ddrGeForce4 ti4600/128Nvidia Soundxp proVic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
