I’m frustrated in making a movie

Featured Replies

I am not only frustrated in my attempts a making an FS movie, but also confused. I have read several tutorials and have tried out various programs but always I’m disappointed with the results. Here’s what I have done and what I understand along with the questions I have.FS Recorder: I have downloaded and used this program to record flights. That part is OK. But I’m lost as to how to record different views with FS Recorder. If I begin a recording from the exterior, then switch to the flight deck, on replying the recorded video, there are no view changes taking place. I even paused the recording, switched views, unpaused the recording, and continued the recording in the new view. But I never see the changes take place when replaying the recorded session. So does FS Recorder just record the flight characteristics?I’ve read that it is best to record using FS Recorder and then re-record using another capture program like FRAPS. But if I can’t record the view changes in FS Recorder, of what value is that? How does one record the flight along with view changes such as views from the flight deck?I’ve attempted to record setting up the flight using FS Recorder by clicking on the various switches from a C&D situation, bringing up the FMC, programming it, then setting up the MCP. On play back, the recording does not begin from the C&D situation, nor does the FMC pop up, and the MCP is already set from the point where I ended the recording.I hope I’ve made clear why I am frustrated. I know I’m missing something. Is there a good tutorial out there? Also I really don’t understand all the different applications in FS Recorder such as the different camera setups. Thanks for any simple instructions.Jim D.

Hello,http://forums.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?222047-I%E2%80%99m-frustrated-in-making-a-movieRegards.bye.gifGus.

Frankly, I think you'll be better off trying FRAPS and simply recording replays or actual flights, it'll be a lot simpler. There is a demo version of FRAPS so you can try it out and see if you get along with it, but it is definitely worth buying the full version if you like making movies from sims and games: http://www.fraps.com/Al

You don't need FS recorder at all. I make movies out of FS, for me, all the time. There is many different screen/video capture program you can use. FRAPS for example...you have shortcut in it, for example F9, for start/stop recording...and thats it, simple. Everything you do, FRAPS capture. FS recorder is somehow "why we should do that easy way, when we can do it hard way", if you know what i mean.

My Specification: I CAN RUN FSX IN MAX SETTINGS....i don't care about dell, bell, amd, intel, 60000 wats power supply or alien made graphic card....

Well, it's the other way around. With FS recorder you record the "flight parameters" and you can replay the same flight on screen from certain viewpoints, and capture the resulting screen images with fraps. Next you can replay the flight with FS recorder from other viewpoints and record again the screen pictures with fraps. Next you can replay... When you make the final cut, you can select the best sequences or even do a "picture in a picture".Using fraps only, is like taking a movie with only one camera; using FS recorder and Fraps together is like taking the action sequences with many camera's at the same time. I'm not suggesting never using anything except FRAPS, merely that if one is having issues with FS Recorder, as the OP seems to be, then recording it directly with FRAPS instead of getting nowhere with FSR, as he seems to be, is a quick way around that issue. Although as you suggest Hugo, ultimately, getting numerous 'shots' of the action is the way to go, and sidestepping it to get things done should only be regarded as a quick way of expediting your problems, which you can address at a later date, if it is currently frustrating you.But it is worth remembering that quite possibly the greatest film director of all time, Akira Kurosawa, was a big fan of getting multiple shots of the same sequence, and if was good enough for the guy who made the best movie ever, then it should be good enough for the rest of us.Al

Thanks for all the replys. I believe I have the basics figured out now. I am still a little confused about the different cameras available in Recorder though. Does this allow different views to be recorded in Recorder, e.g. VC?Jim D.

Hello,

Does this allow different views to be recorded in Recorder, e.g. VC?
Will try explain it simple :)Fsrecorder record only almost all the datas of the flight.Almost .. cause some can't be recorded for some reasons (explainations are given by the author in the FSrecorder forum(s) )Also you have in the recording options the choice to record or not some parametersAlso you have in the replay options the choice to replay or not some parametersSo when you replay .. you can go in any views you want (from the default views of FS2004 or some special view you had set in Fsrecorder views options) and when desired use Fraps (or other soft) for record segments of videos (AVI)It's to knows that some panel actions (datas) are not recorded by FSrecorder .. so if you want those in a movie .. you must record those panel action with Fraps at realtime. You can allways peruse the FSrecorder forums for more insights !Hope it's helpRegards.bye.gifGus.

Thanks Gus, I think I have it clear in mind now. I've done a couple of short ones with FRAPS, now to practice including the FS Recorder recordings.Jim D.
