Let's wait (or ask for) a reply from Randazzo. If I'm not wrong, he's a commercial pilot and may clear this question to us.

No need to wait for Robert Randazzo to reply, UVACP74 you have no idea what your talking about trust me.... He sounds like another simmer with no operational experience that thinks he knows how things are in the real world or has been around a few company's SOP's and thinks that's how most of the aviation industry does it.From the point you said A/T is better in gusty conditions I knew you we're making it up, SOP across nearly all types I've come across recommend A/T off in gusty conditions, even the A320 with G/S Mini can do crazy things.Nearly every operator I've come across recommends A/P off A/T off on final as standard SOP.Here's some bedtime reading http://www.smartcockpit.com/data/pdfs/plane/boeing/B757/instructor/B757_Autothrottle_Use_With_Autopilot_Off.pdf

So you're saying that if you disconnect the A/P on final approach, you are required do disconnect the A/T? Sounds unlikely and a bit dangerous to say the least.
First of all it sounds very likely to say the least as there are major airlines which require either manual (A/P AND A/T off) or automatic (A/P AND A/T on) flight and don't suggest mixed operation at all. Some might do it different but it's far from unlikely let alone "dangerous" most certainly.

+1, thank you. Big%20Grin.gifsig.gif

Yup, and here is a thread from PPRUNE that further backs that up - http://static.pprune.org/archive/index.php/t-398566.html Seems like AT on/AP off is the exception and certainly not the rule. The ARM mode they talk about in that thread is a state where AT switch is on, but no mode is selected. I believe pushing the lit SPD button will extinguish it. This is a manually throttle mode that provides low-speed protection or go-around performance if GA is selected.

There's absolutely nothing that prevents the AT from being on while the plane is being handflown in the NG. Some company SOPs may not permit it, but there's no technical reason it can't or shouldn't be done. The AP and AT are completely separate systems in the 737 - it's not like the MD-11 where it's all tied together. You can fly around all day in SPD mode with the AT commanding thrust while you handfly. It is not "dangerous" in any fundamental sense especially if you are following the FD while handflying - in that case your hands are the AP "servos", that's the only difference.Rob - you're exactly correct about gusty wind conditions - A/T doesn't deal with the sudden changes very well and SOP at most airlines is to go to manual thrust control there.UVACP74 - you need to follow the forum rules and sign your full name to your posts or they're going to be deleted.

Hi Ryan, it would be possible to give us some new info. Something! Yours sincerely,Stefan Z.

A lot of airlines do it in the way AP off and manual speed control (SPD off)at the same time. Some airlines let the ATS switch in arm-mode which means you can control the thrust manually but you have a active low speed protection and in case of missed approach you only have to push the TOGA and the GA-Thrust will set automatically.Holger

Dont you think that RSR has instructed his employees to not give any info? I think you'd have to pester him about that tbh, asking guys like Ryan probably isnt going to yield any sort of results

I have to say I am a bit puzzled of the lack of screenshots from the PMDG team.... All of us here are very patient and I don't understand why a couple of external shots are not shown to help us wait a bit longer.... I believe as faithful customers (because after all we are customers), we could be a little bit more considerated....After all it doesn't cost anything to show a few external shots...Just my 2 cent...Gregory

too much, too soon....

I must say I find the concept of hand flying a plane with the A/T on somewhat bizarre. The few times I've tried flying approaches like that it felt like I was flying with one hand tied behind my back. It just felt wrong having to control the glideslope with the stick. Probably a personal preference thing.About the original question. Is there going to be a provision in the NGX for aligning the physical with the in-sim throttles before A/T disc.?

Well they have put up various screenshots on their Facebook page, and released 3,300 pages of very in depth documentation. Not sure there is much more for them to say/do at this point except let us know when it's done. Only thing that has been kept under wraps is the exterior. I am sure they are very busy trying to wrap this bird up. From what I have read of the manuals this bird should far exceed anyones expectations.
