October 23, 200322 yr I don't normally get involved in threads like this, but thought I would post my findings:All testing done from the default FS9 start up flight.1) Frame Rates Unlocked2-d panel view - approx 22FPS on ground / approx 38 FPS airborne.3-d cockpit - approx 20FPSspot/tower view - approx 40FPS.2) Frame Rates Locked to 20 - My personal default settingall views experienced little/no FPS drop compared with the earlier drivers. My systemAMD XP20001024MB RamNvidia FX5200 128MB RamPreviously I would get stuttering, but now everything is smooth.Do these drivers give better FPS than before? Who cares, but they are an improvement in terms of overall performance.Later
October 23, 200322 yr I assume you have XP. What I do is:* Boot into "safe mode" by holding down the F8 key while rebooting (it may be a different key with your bios), but probably F8.* Select "Safe Mode" from the menu options.* Select "Boot to Windows" from the next menu.* Logon with admin priveleges* Click on Start/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. Scroll down and select the "nVidia display driver" entry and remove it. It will ask for a reboot. Reboot while holding down the F8 key again just as before.* Go to wherever you have the driver files downloaded and click on it and follow the directions. It will reboot again. This time boot without the F8 key.* When you're done you will probably have to reset your desktop resolution and icon placement. The reason for "safe mode" is that windows sometimes will not remove a program that is currently being executed and the nVidia driver is active while in your standard boot mode. If you boot in safe mode Windows boots with basic VGA and the nVidia modules are not loaded or active. This is true for other system type apps as well such as sound drivers.
October 23, 200322 yr "25FPS at landing before and 50FPS afterward?. I need to see it to believe it.""Again not meant as a flame but if your seeing a 50% increase than something was very wrong with the previous drivers or installation. It's one thing the post performance increases for everybody to make a decision based on but are they 100% accurate. Better no Info than the wrong info."Bobby,Appreciate your comments and sorry for the confusion I caused you when I stated my FPS increased almost 50%. I should have stated ...50% using the AquaMark3 Benchmark. With the 52.16 Beta drivers, my FPS was 19.24 FPS. With the WHQL version, my FPS jumped to 36.42. I tried to edit my post to correct this but the editing time had expired. Hope this clarifies things.Regards,Jim Young
October 23, 200322 yr Commercial Member Travis , Good, Same improvement with the gforce4 cards, 2x Antialasing black screen fs2k4 main menu fixed, these driver are a must to install for all users. I see no fps drop compare to the previous official drivers.I confirm from another users with a FX5600 256mb, he gets much better peformance.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFshttp://fsw.simflight.com/fsw.jpg Kind RegardsChris Willis
October 23, 200322 yr Jim,I'm also a 5900 Ultra user. I have my settings at AA-8x and AF-8x. What are your settings?Do you have bad blurries?Tim
October 23, 200322 yr Tim, I've been busy writing a book and taking certification tests and haven't had a chance to try any of the 5x.xx drivers in FS. However, with the 45.23, I was running at 4x AA and 8x AF with sliders maxed and I was getting plenty good frames (minimum of 20 in heavy areas with full AI traffic) and no blurries.I'm eager to try the new drivers, but it will be a while. :)Jim
October 23, 200322 yr Agreed... finally a new set of drivers that work with my Ti4200 at 2xAA and 4xAF, and I can get off my trusty 30.82 drivers (and no more need for Rivatuner!).They work great with FS9!BTW.. if you like Jane's WWII Fighters, stay with the 30.82s.. :-( Bert
October 23, 200322 yr As with the immediately previous post - no major changes- using default flight (run several times both before and after installation) I got a possible max of about 2fps increase whilst on take off(from about 17fps to about 19fps) all other times it hits my lock off 25fps- as did the previous drivers.But- every little helps!! October 23, 200322 yr These drivers seem to give me very good results with FS2004 and it is great to be able to use AA again. FPS >30 in most environments with lock at 35.The only two glitches I have noted are: (1) some screen jumpiness when pressing ALT to get to menu bar, and (2) extremely slow redraw rates with FSNavigator.Has anyone else noticed this with FSNav?Thanks. October 23, 200322 yr Very good results on my system. Not sure about a full 33% gain, but noticable. In general things are smoother and I have sliders all maxed (though Im running 2D clouds). Solid 30FPS in almost all environments and weather. Getting just about same results with add-on aircraft like FSD Cheyenne.Windows XPP4. 2.41.5GB Ram128 MB GeForce 4 Ti4400
October 23, 200322 yr 5900 Ultra here also. nvhardpage utitlity reports anistropy setting as "auto" regardless of what it is set to in the GPU settings. I think it is really level 2X and other people have speculated this as well in the Guru3d and nvnews forums. If so, it's small wonder that there is an FPS increase! At 1600x1200 the blurries disappear somewhat. It seems to be more pronounced at the lower resolutions.
October 23, 200322 yr How about those drivers for Windows ME??? They will be available later?? Thanks.
