HD and standard models

Recommended Posts

After finally receiving a response from Carenado via e-mail, pretty much all of the future aircraft are going to be apart of the HD series including the Cessna 210. Therefore the performance will most likely impact your system if you don't have a decent rig. What's rather interesting though is that they stated that performance on average computers was important to them, yet these HD aircraft prove otherwise. I had a suggestion in a previous post that Carenado should produce two models of their future aircraft that include an HD model and a standard model so that everyone could enjoy them regardless of what kind of computer they have. If anyone agrees, I think it would be a good idea to respond to this post and/or send an e-mail to Contact@Carenado.com to suggest offering the two models that I listed above. Hopefully if they receive enough e-mails they will incorporate those suggestions into their future releases.Btw, I did not post this to bash on the folks at Carenado! I am still a huge fan of their aircraft, and the purpose of this post is to present them with ideas that will make their fans happy and possibly increase their overall sales! :(

I don't think they need to supply another model, just a set of 1024 textures for each paint. And possibly some 1024 textures for the fallback folders. For example the texture.Common or texture.Base folders.flya150

That would be great if they could do that! I have two computers, one for gaming (at home) and a laptop that I mainly use since I'm always traveling. I usually use the laptop to play FSX and the performance isn't that great so it would be awesome if Carenado could provide the "standard" aircraft as well!!!

That's a really good idea! I think this is something that not only Carenado should think about but other companies as well! I have the Caravan and it's very taxing on my system, so the only time that I fly it is when I feel like "dulling" down the sliders a bit (which is something I really hate doing).

If you really want 1024 textures, why not make the current ones smaller yourself...?:(

Kiwikat- I have no idea how to do that, I'm not familiar with messing around with textures. Is it a simple process?
Download this tool: DXTBMPGIMP: LINKUse it to "send to editor", sending it to a program like photoshop (or GIMP if you don't want to spend any money). Resize it in that program (to 2048 or 1024), save the changes, then "reload after edit" in DXTBMP. Then save as DDS - DXT5. If you want some more help with it, feel free to PM me.

Hmmm, what sort of impact did the C208 have? I have a low end PC and so far the majority of their releases have been almost better than default planes. Except the F33... it's not too bad though. Do the 2048 vs 1024 textures really make that much of a difference? Is that what they mean by "HD?"

The problem with framerates is due to the wx radar within the vc and not the 2048 textures. You can easily pan around outside the aircraft without any problems, but when you enter the vc all h*ll breaks loose and the framerates drop. I average about 30 framerates locked until I enter the vc then they go down to 15-17 and is very "twitchy". This was all confirmed by an e-mail from Carenado, yet one still wonders why there hasn't been an update released regarding this problem.
