AFCAD ... only another 22,000 airports to go ...

FS map view reflects where the tower view currently rests and can coincide with an AFCAD-assigned tower view position as well. I've gone to KOKV (Winchester, VA) and inserted a tower view with coordinates and elevation that differ from those of the default tower view. Upon creating a flight on the active runway, FS used the AFCAD-modified tower view I'd just inserted when the flight loaded.>I agree I can get what I want by dragging the the FS tower>view to the destination airport before I start a flight but>that is a $%^* way of doing it, and what happens if I want a>tower view on departure and approach? Perhaps someone else knows, but I've never known of a way to get FS2002 or FS2004 to re-assign the tower view other than dragging it in map view (which won't correspond with the tower view specified by default or by AFCAD without direct coordinate and elevation inputs). For kicks, try this. Using AFCAD, insert a new tower view at a default airport so that you'll notice the difference on loading a flight at that airport. If your AFCAD mods work at that airport, that might help you figure out something to make it work at your third party airport. Speaking of which, is your third party scenery at a higher priority than your AFCAD .bgl files? Not sure if they've included a file that will override your mods by priority or not, but I figure it's worth a try...>Sorry for the rant but I am so frustrated with this,>but thanks for the suggestions Kevin.I understand your frustrations to some extent and hope you can get this sorted in a way that you can live with or even like the results; keep on plugging away at it. Thanks for using these forums to air your questions, helping us learn as well.Kevin

>>Using AFCAD, insert a new tower view at a default airport so>that you'll notice the difference on loading a flight at that>airport.,>>That's what I tried at EGLC but did not save it as a flight>and it was FS tower view that stayed :-(Vulcan,I don't mean to be pedantic here (please don't ask my wife's opinion of that general assessment ;-)), but can you provide me with your desired coordinates and elevation for the EGLC tower view? I'm doing a bit of research into your problem and have noticed some strange behavior in the way(s) FS determines what the tower view will be when a given flight is selected or created. I'll post to this thread with results once I get enough dots to connect.Kevin

Hi Kevin,EGLC tower coordinatesN51 30.2414E000 03.0031ALT 64ftHope that helps.

Vulcan,Ok, let me give this yet another try. I'm going to start a new post on this topic soon, but I want a little more information. Try setting your default flight to the original KSEA default flight. Exit FS and restart it, making sure that your AFCAD2-modified EGLC tower view location is correctly placed and the AF2_EGLC.bgl is in its proper, high-enough folder/priority location. Then from Create a Flight, go to EGLC and switch to tower view. Worked perfectly for me.If that doesn't work, try one more thing. We've seen with AFCAD2 that Mr. Swordy (Thanks, Lee!) has given us the ability to simply delete or relocate a .bgl file and restore the stock airport. If all else has failed, leave your third party scenery in place both on disk and in the scenery library priority list. Cut and paste your AF2_EGLC.bgl to a different folder for temporary safe storage. Using AFCAD2, open the stock EGLC and insert nothing but a new tower view by typing in the coordinates and elevation you provided above. Save the new file in your usual AFCAD mods folder and restart FS with the default flight set to the KSEA flight mentioned above. Then go to EGLC and see where your tower view is located. Thanks for your efforts.Fingers crossed,Kevin

Did the first paragraph Kevin and sure enough it worked, tower view was located where the scenic tower is, however :-), it does not work with other airports where I have changed the tower view :-(I have changed the tower view at EGCC and EGGW but if I go through the same procedure the view is not where the AF2 BGL places it.Thanks for your efforts, back to you :-) If I hear anything useful from the UK2000 forum I will add it to this thread, or the new one.Rgds

You're very welcome, Vulcan, and I'm happy to hear that resolved it. I'm also glad to hear it worked in that it meshes nicely with a little theory about FS tower view placement I have going. I'll have to look into this new deal you have going on, as I don't know how to explain that yet (I can't duplicate your problem).Maybe try placing only a new tower view in the stock EGCC and EGGW airports and see if they work, too (keeping a backup copy of your original changes, of course). Ahh, the mystery...Kevin

Ah Kevin, my reply was too early :-)Although it worked as you predicted originally, when I later went to fly from EGLC the tower view had reverted to the MS position - go figure???I was just about to say I had changed nothing from before but there was one small change.Originally I created a flight from KSEA in the Cessna and saved that as the default flight (I had previously changed the default flight), went through your procedures, restarted FS at KSEA and then from the World menu went to EGLC, the tower view was where I had put it.When I did my flight from EGLC I created it from 'Create a flight' so when FS opened I was at EGLC rather than at KSEA, that was the only difference.Which means that to have this work you need to start at the default location and change your location once FS has fully opened.I'll try to do some more testing this evening.Wouldn't it be easier if MS gave us back the movable tower we had in FS2k & 2k2? Rhetorical question :-)Rgds
