Oh Gosh! Don't get me started about eyesight. I can't even read the figures on the panel instruments in the AS365 Dauphin!!! I'm glad Antti finally gave us the little popup windows at least for the DG and altimeter, otherwise I wouldn't know WHERE I was going or how high I was! :-lol -Lindy (aka Ms. Magoo) :-wave

Well.....I always had 20/20 eyesight becasue I knew I wanted to be a pilot, but when I found out that I could never be one I stopped caring about my eyesight and started spending a lot of time at the computer. I do not knw what my eyesight is now but I am sure it's not 20/20 because I have trouble reading some stuff on the screen and sometimes my vision is blurred, even with my glasses that I was given by the optometrist to use at the computer.Take careMike

It depends. If my significant other asks me if I saw the note she left me on the fridge this morning, concerning our trip to see her parents........ my eyesight turns out to be terrible. Otherwise, I'm just a tad near-sighted ;-)Roger

My eyesight is currently, supposedly, perfect, 20/20 or as we put it here in Sweden: 1.0 (actually it's even a little better than that, 1.1-1.2).However, about eight months ago I learned that my eyesight was - supposedly - a lot worse, 0.5 on both eyes or 0.4 on the left and 0.2 on the right. So I'd need glasses when driving for example. But now I went to a contact lense specialist (I thought that I might as well get contacts since I never used my glasses...). This guy taught me how to "train" my eyes by focusing on objects far away... And actually I could notice a change in just a few minutes. He checked my eyesight and said it was 1.0 on left and right eyes separately, and 1.2 combined. When I, slightly embarrassed, said that I'd almost never used my glasses he said that that had saved me! If I had used my glasses my eyesight would have been a lot worse by now...That's my story... :-)Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing

Nearsighted, not sure how much when measuring like that, but far from 20/20. I use glasses but don't need them most of the time - including when I sit in front of the computer... ;)Dave :)

Sounds a bit like me... So if you don't want to get even more nearsighted, do not use your glasses! Instead, look up from the computer screen and focus on something in the distance... a tree, a plane, a license plate. It works. :-)It does of course depend on how long you've been nearsighted though. If it's been going on for, say, ten years and you've been using glasses on and off, your eyes would need a lot more "training" than if it had just been going on for one or two years.Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing

Hmm, that sounds interesting. I got that tip before though, and it didn't help. :( But you never know... Anyway, I'm not blind yet! ;)Thanks anyway, I'll see what I can get out of that hint. BTW where do all the Swedes come from? Feels like I meet them all the time! :)Dave

I've heard ads on the radio claiming this 'training' well make you throw away your contact lenses and glasses (spectacles).I wonder what the technique is?

Well, here in Sweden it's apparently rather unheard of. Anyway, this is what I learned from the optician (who BTW was educated in the US).When focusing on something closer than about 6 meters, the lense has to accomodate, which means a muscle changes the shape of the lense. If you do this a lot (e.g. sit a lot in front of the computer...), the muscle gets seized in the accomodating position, which means the eye can't focus as well on things further away than about 6 m. You can of course correct this by using glasses or contacts, but then this muscle will just stay seized in cramp - your eyes will get used to it.Instead of glasses or contacts you can just train your eyes by focusing on things far away, and in my case I noticed a difference after just a few minutes. If you're good at it, you can even stretch your eye muscles. :-eekA good example about nearsightedness is a survey that was done in, if I remember correctly, the Philippines (the location isn't important). Of the 16 year olds in the country, a large majority living in the cities were nearsighted, but there were practically none who were nearsighted living in the countryside. Why? Well, in the cities many worked at factories, soldering together circuit-boards and things like that (so their eyes needed to accomodate a lot, and thus became nearsighted). In the country they were farming and spent most of their time out in the fields (not the same need to focus on small details here, so nearsightedness is uncommon).I'm not going to say too much because hopefully someone more knowledgable will step in and correct me (if necessary :-)). This is some of what I was told anyway, and it seems to work on me, and I'm happy (since I don't have to think about glasses any more, or large amounts of money eaten by contact lenses, or not being able to be a pilot... etc. :-)).It's late, I'm gonna go and look out a window to give my eyes some well-needed workout!Martin767 fetishistOh, and I just wanted to add that a lot of the terms and expressions I'm using when it comes to eyesight are probably way off, but it's the best I can offer at the moment. ;-)It's a lot like life and that's what's appealing

Anyway, I'm not >blind yet! ;)Well, did you just try it on your own, or did you check with an optometrist (or optometrician, don't know what you call it)?I guess that if you're used to wearing glasses it's not a big deal, but it is if you've never had glasses, and suddenly you're expected to start wearing them at age 13. :-)>Thanks anyway, I'll see what I can get out of that hint. I'd think there are about five of us here around Avsim. :-)Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing

I believe that training program has potential. In fact, when I was stationed in Sacramento CA and going to Radiology School, I did some treatments with DR. Murris who is one of the docs associate with the See Clearly program. This was back in the late 80s. Through the exercises you described and some real "Flat" base curve contacts, my eyes were actually getting better. I had vision worse than 20/400 (very near sighted). In fact one morning I woke up and that I had fallen asleep with my contacts in. I could see well enough to walk around base and not get run over by the traffic. I could also read the tail numbers on the aircraft parked near base ops and this was from the street. Unfortunately, I got transfered after school to Southern CA near Riverside and could not continue the program.I do belive that the reason the eye docs do not use these training exercises are:1. They were never trained this way.2. They can not see as many patients per day.3. They can make more money selling glasss and contacts and know you will be coming back year after year.Terry
