Motherboard Monitor Help...

Featured Replies

FS keeps crashing even after installing WinXP Home. I want to see if my cpu is overheating but I can't make heads or tails out of MB Monitor. What does this mean:"Just drag the files you want checksummed into the window and out comes the appropriate info. Pretty straightforward :)" Pretty simple...ya right. What files, from where? How do I config it to read cpu temp? :-hmmm I'd sure apprecaite any help anyone could offer. Thanks, Adam

I've never used MB Monitor, but I have used a programme called SANDRA, which will give you all sorts of system data. It's essentially a benchmarking tool and system analyser.http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/index.html?dir...ion&langx=en&a=it's good for checking performance on newly built systems and there is plenty of clear documentation, as far as I remember.SANDRA Standard is free for personal use.Hope that helps.Si.

Thanks SI, Do you know if it will log cpu temp at the time of a problem or crash? Thanks man, Adam

Hi Adam,After installing MBM you should see something in the task bar (next to your clock). If not, click on "Start", "All Programs", and then find MBM. Click on the icon "MBM 5" and wait a few seconds. That should bring up something on the task bar (temps, fans speeds... something associated with MBM).Right click on that, and a menu will appear. Click on "Settings" to configure MBM the way you wish. FYI, I have mine configured to show Diode, CPU, and MB temps in my task bar.Hope this helps,

Thanks a bunch Greg. I had downloaded the wrong program. I've got MBM5 up and running now. My cpu temp is very low at less than 40 C after flying FS for a while in heavy scenery. I do have the side off my case.I took my video card out and discovered that it was packed with dust. I smoke around the old puter and it clogged up pretty bad. After thoroughly cleaning and reinstalling, I did a long flight with lots of weather and no crashes. I think I've got the prob solved...fingers crossed. :D Thanks for the help, Adam

Glad you got it sorted."My cpu temp is very low at less than 40 C after flying FS for a while in heavy scenery. I do have the side off my case."That sounds about right. What's your room temp? Once you put the side back on, check your temp again. If it goes up more than 2-4 degrees C you'll know it's time to install more cooling (case fans). If you can configure MBM to show the diode temp, don't be concerned if you see it spiking up and down under load/no load. This is normal. The diode is seeing all the action (load/unload) first. Also, under no-load the diode temp should be 3-7 degrees C below the CPU temp. If it's not in this range then you'll know to look at your CPU heatsink choice and/or installation.Cheers,

Hey Greg, Room temp hangs around 22C. I think I will try your suggestion of putting the side back on and retesting. I have left the side off since about FS2K2 LOL. That's probably contributing to the clogging! What I've got set up now on MBM is the case temp, cpu temp and cpu useage. I have "WinBond2 Diode" monitoring my cpu now and "WinBond1" monitoring my case. These are from the spec sheet on the website.Seems to be working just fine. Thanks again man, Adam

Really, man... you should put the side on yer case... it's not just dust... flies and bits of anything floating in can totally KILL your PC. I know it sounds a bit dramatic, but true though :)Also.. at less than 40C you have no problem at all. A rise of 2-4C when you place your side casing on doesn't warrant installing a load of buzzing fans in your system.I don't know what CPU you have, but many an ATHLON will run quite happily at over 65C Mine steadies at around 56C and a little more in the summer and I've never had a problem.Just watch for the dust and crap in your case. :(Glad to hear everything is going fine now.Cheers,Simon.

Yep, she can get a tad grungy in there. *:-* I'll take yer advice and put the cover back on and have looksee at the temps. Thanks Simon, Adam

"A rise of 2-4C when you place your side casing on doesn't warrant installing a load of buzzing fans in your system."There is no good reason to install "a load of buzzing fans". I use big, slow fans. My computer makes less noise than my monitor (and it's pretty quiet).A rise of more than 2-4C indicates a ventilation problem within the case. A well designed and assembled case will move air effienctly with a minimum of forced flow. And it will maintain a temp close to ambient.56C CPU temp is too high for my tastes. As I write this my CPU/Diode/MB temps are 34/30/28C at an ambient temp of 25.5C. But if your system works fine at that temp, then that's all that matters.Regards,
