Couple of annoyances on a flight last night

Featured Replies

Had a couple of gripes using v6 last night on a flight from Las Vegas to San Fran. Firstly - and i have noticed this on other flights since upgrading, is that the controller doesnt always talk to me, but suddenly i get some green text come up on screen that obvioulsy i have to reply to. It has caught me off guard a few times as i will often fly without the prompt on screen, and miss the instruction. I am now flying with the prompt on all the time so i dont miss anything. I have installed some extra voice sets, so to be fair the problem may lie with them, and not VOX.Much more annoying though, i was flting the BOACH3 HEC transition, using the autopilot with the route programmed in to the FMC. Everything had been going fine, then just as i was almost over HEC there was a big windshift (as sometimes happens when new weather loads, though i thought i had stopped it happening through FSUIPC), i think i just missed going directly over HEC. The controller then kept giving me instructions to go left, i believe to get me to cross HEC before it would let me fly the rest of the FP. The problem was, i was following the controller requests exactly, but just flew around in circles for about 30 minutes before giving up. Quite annoying when you are already in a flight that you have taken time to plan, set the weather up etc.

FSUIPC can't protect against a windshift resulting from a new weather load - only if you move from one cell or flight level to another with differing winds. Bummer, but a new weather load is like entering a brand new world. That aside, I had something similar happen once on a short flight from KDFW to KIAH and it was annoying. The controller started telling me to turn left to this heading and then turn further left to another heading, and then to turn right to a brand new heading, etc. It was as if it wanted me to hit a transition fix that I just missed by a nm or two on my first flyby. I had throttled back and treated this as if I were being put into a delay hold, but after I saw that I was going to be way late (and FS Captain hadn't gained the ability to detect a proper holding pattern and not penalize me) I simply ended the flight mid-air.Now that I'm logging my flights I'll look for this to happen again and see if anything interesting shows up.

I've now had 3 bad flights in a row with v6.04 and am getting a tad miffed with it. Didnt used to have so many problems with v5.63!Problems ranging from mostly ATC just stopping talking to me at various times throughout the phases of flight. Being sat waiting for clearance to get on the rwy to take off for 20 mins whilst 2 planes did touch and go's.Also why, whenever i am in the air and request an option from ATC like higher, lower etc. do i always get told "unavailable at this time". Just feel like i am wasting my evenings at the momeant because i never get a satisfactory flight from start to finish.I even did a reinstall tonight and all seemed to be going well, but on joining ILS09 at Liverpool, i made initial contact with ATC, which was acknowledged and then nothing, i continued and landed and vox was still running, but just not communicating with me.As has been said before, if the bugs could be ironed out, VOXATC would be an incredible addition to FSX, but as it is i just couldnt recommend it as quick as i would programs such as REX, FS Commander, and the Leveld767. VOX is just to buggy for my liking, making the £45 asking price too much (IMO).

That's too bad, and it's got to be puzzling as to why it's different for different people. Have you pinged Tegwyn with your details - made a detailed error log of a bad flight??Anywhere from 5-10% of my flights something goes ka-blonk and I end up de-activating and re-activating to see if VoxATC clears its innards and continues controlling me. Sometimes it doesn't and I carry on my merry way looking at traffic and landing myself as I'd expect to be guided. But for the rest of the time it's a super add-on and it really helps with the experience. The little vectoring exercise described earlier is - I assume - the result of missing a transition fix by over a mile. Next time it happened, I deactivated, put on a fake moustache so ATC wouldn't recognize me, reactivated and flew onwards. Then, some of the times when VoxATC does something that it's not supposed to, it works in our favor. More than once I've been given approval to take off ahead of other aircraft queued up in front of me. It can be a pickle working oneself around an Airbus sitting at the wig-wag, but I think of the passengers watching me slip by and line up and it's worth it. :(
