I've been waiting to buy a new computer until I can understand what is going on with FS9 and ATI video cards. I've pretty much decided to go with a ATI 9800, but the problem of flashing screens has kept me waiting. I'm not too sure I understand exactly what the flashing trouble is (do you have to run FS9 in a window?}, but I really don't want anythoing to be flashing for any length of time. I thought the 3.8 drivers had it fixed, Then I started reading that it didn't fix the issue for a number of people, and some were going back to the 3.7 drivers. The Omega drivers seemed to work for some, so I was thinking that if I got the card they would most likely work for me. Then I read a thread in a forum somewhere else and found neither the Omega or 3.8 drivers solved the problem for a number of folks. Also, it was said that AMD CPUs have the most problems. I was really close to getting a new system...then I read that and now I'm frozen. I suppose I'll keep waiting until I hear ATI has this problem licked. I hope it's very soon. Any ideas?On a unrelated, but more positive side, I'm really enjoying the Custom Classic VI Stinson etc. It's one of the best add-ons I've ever bought.

The flashing is only when hitting alt and going to the menus, it doesn't flash while flying so I would still recommend the radeon.Speed.

The Omega 3.8's fix the flashing menu problem. Given that they are based on Dell 3.9 betas (3.8.5 I believe), there is a good chance the official ATI 3.9's will resolve the issue once and for all. Since I run in windowed mode, I've not had the flashing problem with any radeon driver version, hence this is not an issue for me anyway.Re AMD chips: my last computer was an AMD (1.4Ghz) and would have to be the most unstable computer I've ever owned. Added to that, I had endless grief because of compatability issues between my CH Yoke and Pedals, USB and the VIA chipset (random HARD LEFT rudder and sudden off-centre changes). As you can see by my sig, I am back with Intel and am immensely pleased with my newfound stability and compatibility. Having said that, I'd consider venturing into the AMD camp once again, but would first need some major convincing on the stability and compatibility on any recommended AMD configuration.Gary

That sounds hopefull about the drivers.I'm sorry to hear about the incompatability problem with the AMD. I have a scratchy sound when using the default Cessna etc. I tried upgrading from a SB Live to an Audigy but it never fixed it. I then heard that it is caused by a conflict between the VIA chipset and the Soundblaster Live and Audigy. I'll have to think twice before going with AMD.

Funny, I have 2 AMD PCs with FS9 installed, a 1gig and one with a XP3200 and they are both very stable, no complaints and the 1 gig is runniung with no weather at maxed settings and very flyble.I chose AMD for the new high end rig, because a majority of the FS9 problem posts all used Intel. No regrets!Now VIA chipsets is another story.... I have never had a Pentium chip. I've gone up the chain of speed with AMD, and FS Versions. I've never had any problems with lock-ups, stutters, or anything else. On the other front, I buy assembled machines, with good parts, good video cards, and I do not overclock or glunk the machines up scads of software and drivers (resident or otherwise). I only install programs I really want to use, and keep this to a minimum.With fingers crossed....Bob (Lecanto, Fl)
