Nvidia configuration guide (Inspector + 2xx.xx drivers) version 2.0 + explanations of all settings

Recommended Posts

Here's a screen shot of the newest Inspector (in case anyone is interested) - things have been added. This is what I have configured so far for the GTX650:

Change "Anisotropic Filtering Mode" to 'Application-Controlled' and let FSX manage this setting. Choose 'Anisotropic Filtering' in FSX. See image:

Graphics_030413.jpg

I did some tinkering and have dropped ENB like a bad habbit and now use "SweetFX". That and I changed the "Antialiasing - Setting" to '16xS' and "Vertical Sync" to 'forced on' see below image. My frames start a little sluggish around 14 at busy airports but after about 30 seconds.. they get up to normal at around 20-25 (It's kinda weird, like I get a boost all of a sudden), this is all in the NGX using dx9.

Here are my settings with a GTX680 2GB:

Here's a few screenshots to show how amazing the AA is and the color depth and sharpness using SweetFX:

Jon great shots and some nice settings so far so good thanks, this Titan is hard to dial this looks like something I can build on.

Jon, could you share your preset file for FSX.

Thanks in advance,

Francisco Mateos

Hi Francisco,

Are you referring to my fsx.cfg or the SweetFX settings or something else?

Nice - I just did that

Windowed mode was fine

Went to full screen - frames went to 1.3...

strange

Does SweetFX only work in windowed mode? Cant seem to get it working in Full screen

Cool and thx. My desire to fly has increased dramatically since fsx is stable and amazing looking.

I fly fullscreen, not sure why It's not working for you. I'm away from my pc for a few days, when I get back I'll post all my settings.

Absolutely, just reverse anything you Change and if overwriting any files make a backup first. To remove SweeFX, delete the files and folder you copied over to fsx.

I wasn't aware Prepar3d had a compatibility problem with SweetFX. I was under the impression it worked with any 32bit game and soon, 64bit. Did you copy the folder as well as all the files? Try installing again, read install instructions. It's worth it.

You should be able to run the same settings I have, best thing to do is experiment. I'm using SweetFX v1.4.

If you're using the ENBseries shader mod, the d3d9.dll file would be overwritten, just make sure you have a backup copy before installing SweetFX so you can go back to ENB. That is really the only file I can think of that would need backing up prior to the SweetFX install. The file will be in your root FSX folder. If you're not using ENB then nothing to worry about.

I'm Win7 64bit, works fine on 64bit OS's, just not 64bit applications yet. I haven't had a single problem with CTD's so I can't help you there. My guess is there is a conflicting .dll in the FSX root folder, good luck.

Just to show the results on my system here's a before and after shot and a couple others: (Recently, I changed my NI Antialiasing setting to 32xS (Combined 2x2 SS + 8x MS) best results so far!)

I have good results on Win8 X64 w/ FX8350 processor and GTX660 card.

One difference - I took out a performance hit (or conflict) by changing:

#define USE_SMAA_ANTIALIASING 1    to  0   on some advice elsewhere on Avsim.

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/389455-have-any-of-you-tried-this-sweetfx/page-2

I also don't turn on VSync based on an old post stuck in my memory from Ryan. Not sure if that's the right thing to do or not, but my FPS is finally the last thing on my mind after 6+ years of FSX.

My FPS is locked at 29, and I'm still getting 29, so I can't comment on any performance hit since it's N/A for me.

I have sweetfx on Win 7 and IT works solid. No CTD at all. I am using DX10

  • Flight Simulation's Premier Resource!

AVSIM is a free service to the flight simulation community. AVSIM is staffed completely by volunteers and all funds donated to AVSIM go directly back to supporting the community. Your donation here helps to pay our bandwidth costs, emergency funding, and other general costs that crop up from time to time. Thank you for your support!
