Finding Textures to Match Scenery BGL

Recommended Posts

Hello Designers,I have been on here a lot lately and truly value all the excellent assistance and advice you have shared.I have been designing (read that as modifying default) airports for about two years now, always on my own system and not for sharing or upload to other users. Thus, I never worried about where a matching texture file (.bmp) was for a scenery.bgl file. Recently, though, I shared a file through the AVSIM Library. Finding the corresponding texture files in my system for the object.bgl file I used to create was a logisitcs NIGHTMARE. I did this because I did not want the end user to have to go download additional EZ-Scenery, Rwy12, etc libraries in order to make the scenery work. I like "one stop shopping". One of my pet peeves when downloading airport addon files from AVSIM was the need to go find other files (libraries) to install in order for the scenery to work. Life was simple back then, though, because I knew if I placed the additional scenery/texture files in Static Objects Library my system would "find" the right bgl and bmp file and...voila, my airport would look great. My goal is to find a solution to locating the texture that accompanies a specific object within a .bgl file and we all know some of the libraries contain hundreds of objects. By way of example, lets say I design a scenery for Airport KXYZ. One of the object files I add is the 1930 Ford Gas Truck from the ez_old_brick_hangar folder which contains a scenery folder that has that bgl file plus two hangars in it. The Texture file has textures for all three, but I just want to include the textures for the 1930 gas truck. This is perhaps a poor example because there are only 8 texture files associated with these three bgl files so it would be easy to just include them all. So, my question, is there a program that will let me look at ez_old_brick_hangars, specifically at only the bgl file for the 1930 Gas Truck within that folder, and see what texture files (by name) apply to that bgl file? I have been using EZ-Scenery to select and place objects and I don't see that function in it. I have also used Rwy12, but not for about a year since I got EZ-Scenery.Thanks,Randy "Ramjett53" Tyndall

Glad that helped ! B) And now... for a second bow: :( Add a shortcut to XnView's executable (ex: "C:\Program Files\XnView\xnview.exe" in Windows XP) in the Windows right-click "Send To" context menu.EX: For Windows XP, a XnView shortcut would end up in the Send To folder at:C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\SendTo\XnView.lnkThen in Windows Explorer, just browse any desired FS \Texture folder, right click, and navigate Send To > XnViewOne should promptly have a nice, custom size-able, custom sortable thumbnail gallery displayed of all the FS DXT textures in that folder ! B) Hope this helps a bit more ! :( GaryGB

One thing about XnView, which I like in general, is at least in my install, which AFAIK is current, it won't display textures in BMP with DXT5 compression (but DXTBmp does display them).scott s..
