Will registered version of FSUIPC be required to fly NGX?

Featured Replies

Hello,Will I need a registered version of FSUIPC to fly NGX in real-world weather mode? I used to fly PMDG's 747, but after few minutes in the air it would start rocking from side to side. I asked for the support on the forum, and I was told to buy FSUIPC and use wind smoothing option or something like that. I decided not to.Now, how about NGX? Will this issue be present in the NGX?Thanks

That's not really an aircraft specific problem as it should affect anything you fly when using real weather. That being said, the only way to stop the sudden wind changes causing it will be to register fsuipc so you can smooth it out.

Nothing we can do about the weather system in FSX - the aircraft does not control that.

Or use ASE in DWC mode.

Or use ASE in DWC mode.
I currently have Active Sky X. Are you sure that DWC mode in ASE does eliminate this issue? I would definitely upgrade to ASE.Thanks for all help

Yes I am, at least it works perfectly for me in MD-11 and J41. But DWC means new problems, like wrong runway assignments at destination etc, but I can't imagine flying without it!

Could you explain Direct Weather Contol a little bit? What's the difference between the other modes? And why is the assigned runway wrong? I have ASE and I'm trying some different settings to see what works best. But it helps if I know what the differences are....Thanks in advance,

Henk de Vries

In DWC mode weather is set globally, which means that it's exactly the same everywhere in the FSX world, this way they have control over winds, cloud shifts etc, but the drawback is, that you will be assigned runway accordingly to the winds 70nm away from the destination. There's option to clone destination weather to all station in area of 80nm from destination, but it's not very elegant solution. If you're flying with Radar Contact (I don't) you'll be very happy with it, otherwise youl have to learn to live with landings with tailwind ;)

Thank you for explaining the DWC function.I think I'll buy the FSUIPC anyway, since it can be useful with other add-ons that I have. I just checked ASE on Hifi website and it looks way more advanced that ASX, so I'll add this one to my wishlist :)Again, thank you!

It's worth having the registered FSUIPC. The keyboard mappings are a lifesaver.

If I'm not using the FS ATC, does DWC have any disadvantages.

I have Active Sky Evolution, and for the longest time I was very against DWC because of the wrong ATIS reports and AI using the wrong runways. Not to mention that all jets have contrails at all altitudes, including taxing on the ground, when the user plane is at cruise at high altitudes since that weather is applied globally. But I was getting tired of the inaccurate aloft wind direction, or FSX losing its connection to ASE, resulting in flashes between normal and unlimited visibility at cruise. Although I wasn't getting wind shear like sudden wind shifts, the aloft winds would slowly swing from the reported head or tail winds into the reverse direction, which resulted in the aircraft adjusting pitch and engine power to compensate in a very unrealistic manner to avoid overspeeding or stalling, which really does ruin the experience! After reading what others were saying about DWC; that it cures wind shifts once and for all, and offers very consistent and accurate winds aloft, I decided to take the plunge and try it out on a long haul flight against strong predicted head winds. I was very very impressed, the visual depiction is great, and the winds aloft remained true to what ASE was reporting throughout the flight. This is very important when you take the time to load the correct fuel amount for airliner flights, you want the weather to be accurate so that you don't burn more fuel than necessary for the plane to catchup to unexpected wind shifts. I feel that with the visual disadvantages (contrails on the ground, AI using the wrong runways...), its a tradeoff I feel I can accept in order to have plausible cruise weather conditions. In regards to the inaccurate FSX ATC ATIS reports, I just enable the VOICEATIS/Flightwatch option in ASE (using 122.02 on the radio) to obtain the correct ATIS report from ASE. Eventually as you get to IAF or end of the STAR on your approach, the weather on the ground should settle down to the expected conditions and the AI will adjust to using the correct runways (albeit a few AI on approach or takeoff cue will still use the older wrong weather and use the wrong runways, but again, this is a tradeoff one must accept)Overall, if you are flying the heavy metal, you are missing out if you don't use DWC just because of the cons, which are really just visual. The satisfaction of having accurate and consistent weather throughout the cruise regime IHMO makes up for those other issues. When you are concentrating on flying the aircraft, you tend to ignore how AI is behaving on the ground anyways.

I don't get contrails on the ground with DWC..
What I mean is when your plane has contrails forming at cruise altitudes because of the temperature at that altitude, that temperature will be reported on the ground at all airports. So if you decide to go to tower view or AI view to view other aircraft those planes (I believe just jets) will have contrails, even if they are just taxing to the runway. Its not a big deal if you aren't spotting while cruising, but you will notice that all traffic around you (even those below 10000 feet) will have these contrails, which can look just a little weird. Likewise, those high velocity winds at cruise are also depicted on the ground, you will notice wind socks shaking violently, clouds flying by very fast over the airport grounds, basically your cruise weather and associated conditions are depicted on the ground because of the effect of global weather.
