February 27, 201115 yr I've been flying some "old missions" with the Accusim B-17G and Spitfire around the UK and have been looking for a good photoreal scenery (makes VFR navigation much easier). Of my searches on the internet, VFR Generation X UK has looked to be the top of the list. However, I can't find much in the way of reviews for this. Can anyone give some feedback? My big concern with photoreal scenery has been the absolute lack of autogen that hinders appearances between about 500-2,000' AGL. By the time I'm under 500' I'm usually pretty focused on the runway, but above that I like to see some 3D objects to have a sense of movement and depth on approach to the airport. Eric Szczesniak
February 27, 201115 yr Neither one of the VFR scenery's for the UK include autogen sadly. I picked up the complete just flight version on sale around Xmas (I hear the Gen X is better mind you). I also own treescapes UK from earth simulations that adds perfectly aligned autogen trees to either one of the VFR UK scenery's. It is a VAST improvment over the just seeing the flat VFR scenery. The VFR scenery combined with treescapes is an excellent combination. Al Stiff
February 27, 201115 yr Author Hmmm...one of the reasons I was looking at this set is that they advertised it as including autogen sets, a full London as well as other cities and varius 3D additions on the order of treescapes. I wonder if what I'm thinking of might also include you photoscenery and treescapes? Eric Szczesniak
February 27, 201115 yr I'm in much the same position as ESzczesniak. I've also been considering the Gen X VFR scenery, but lack of autogen would be a serious inhibitor. I looked around and found Treescape, and also this link:http://www.shepsshed.com/autogentrees.htmCan anyone comment on how good/useful this stuff is with Gen X ? The screenshots look impressive. Is it the same as Treescape ?Aerosoft's VFR London can be used with Gen X. Again - anyone care to comment on how good it is ?http://www.aerosoft2.de/downloads/londonx/Manual_Horizon_VFR_London_X_engl.pdf
February 27, 201115 yr I have Lodon VFR as well as Gary's UK2000 airports working flawlessly with VFR UK (and Gen X work's just as well they say).Sheps stuff is isolated areas with autogen, treescapes UK is the entire country with trees only and as I said does a fantastic job of adding a 3D element to the scenery. February 27, 201115 yr The Gen X scenery is pretty good, but of course it only covers one season (summer). With the UK VFR aiports it looks really good except as you would expect when you're below 2,000 ft then things look a bit flat. The tresscapes trees do reduce that problem (and make the airfields harder to find). The combination is about as good as you're likely to get for the UK at the moment. Now if ORBX..............
February 28, 201115 yr That's a pity - I was hoping there was now better autogen coverage. I think for the time being I'll stay with my current environment, which is UTX/GEX EU. It's obviously not photographically accurate, but you can fly low and slow, and with roads/water features/towns/railways etc accurately placed, it's perfectly possible to fly VFR. In fact, since I mainly fly WW2 a/c, I disable all the roads in UTX (no motorways in 1943 !) and it's still possible to navigate using the other land/water features. And the scenery looks better too. In all four seasons. I think ORBX for the UK may be a long time coming . . .
February 28, 201115 yr I have got the GenX scenery for Southern England together with Gary Summons Airports for the South. As has been said, the scenery is very flat, and road bridges don't seem to exist. This produces an effect where a road dips down one side of an embankment and climbs up the other producing a rather strange effect. The other noticable thing relates to GPS Terrain. Fying over southern England, the GPS shows water rather than land.I also have heard good things about Earth Simulations Trees.Hope this helpsDavid

February 14, 201214 yr So Treescapes works with either Justflight or the Horizon Simulations VFR sceneries?DanielYes, you need to modify the JustFlight version folder settings (instead of four different folders you add them into one folder so you can add the treescapes into that). The Earth Simulations team will explain in an email but it works perfectly and the cool thing about the JF photo UK is it also has night lighting. Al Stiff

February 14, 201214 yr I've actually just finished a review for this, for simflight.com. it includes much, much more though. The review tries to create the "Ultimate London", so I also look at all payware (to my knowledge) existing add ons that cover London and its airports. No idea when it'll be published though. Since the review is roughly 40 pages, it might take some time before the editing is done...By the way, Horizon's VFR Gen X scenery also includes night lighting. February 14, 201214 yr I use PlayHorizon VFR GenX3 photoscenery, ES Treescapes, and UK2000 VFR Airfields + Xtreme Airports, and the combination is excellent. The trees give the landscape a nice 3D feel (although the 5 metre resolution mesh does a fine job already where the terrain exhibits elevation changes), and make the small airfields quite tricky to locate (which is exactly how it should be). As for any future ORBx scenery, bear in mind that ORBx scenery is LANDCLASS based (apart from small pockets of photoreal scenery around specific airfields), and would therefore not be suitable for accurate VFR navigation with respect to known real world features.I prefer accurate photoscenery, because it is so interesting spotting reservoirs, golf courses, and all kinds of topographical features and landmarks, and knowing that they are REAL. Conversely, if I know of a particular landmark (eg. a chalk drawing of a horse on a hillside), I will be able to see it in FSX with VFR GenX3 photoscenery! February 14, 201214 yr HelloI agree with Christopher, the combination of VFR GenX3 ES Treescapes, and UK2000 VFR Airfields + Xtreme Airports is superb.Throw in the GenX Ireland despite the green tint, then add the brilliant NL2000 Netherlands scenery and you have a nice large photoreal area to fly in.Another plus is the framerates are better than with landclass+ textures.
