My Opinion on FS9 vs FSX

Featured Replies

Hi,Ground Environment Pro for ground textures.Mesh and Landclass from FS Genesis.REX for environmental textures.Active Sky Evolution for weather. The Ultimate Terrain series for road, water and scenery placements.WOAI and MAIW for AI flight packages.Radar Contact for ATC.Edit Voice Pack for updated ATC terminology and airlines.FSUIPC and Wide FS for advanced settings and networking options.Plenty of planes and scenery both free and pay out there.
Jim,I have almost every great payware add-on for FS9 and I just don't see what FS9 enthusiasts see.I think that I'll stick with FSX and FTX sceneries. Thanks for the list.

So you enjoy all that auto gen popping up every second in FSX because of no alpha fade? You spent, what, $2000+ to get to that point? You think everyone can do that?

No! I don't think that everyone will and can do that. But, I'm not starting threads encouraging others to upgrade because FSX is so much more superior in graphics quality.I respect everyone's decision to use the sim that they desire. FSX does require a fast system, everyone knows that. Tell us something we don't know. IMHO, FSX simply looks better than FS9. That's why I spent the money to upgrade my system and add-on software in order to run FSX at an acceptable level. This in no way is intended to degrade FS9 or its enthusiastic users. As for AG popping up, I don't experience that on my properly configured system.

You act as if FS9 is a damsel in distress needing rescue or defense! :( By the way, I've spent much less $$$ than that to get to that point, thank you! :( I should also add you run a very tight ship there at Hifi support. Thank you for that.

My System: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
I was really surprised when I discovered that Windows XP SP2 64-bit still gave me extra boost in FS2004 and FSX compared to Win7 Pro 64-bit. FPS went higher ~15-20% in places. I always set up everything by Nick_N's book. I was surprised as other simulators like Eagles's Black Shark, A-10C and some others run better under Win7 Pro 64-bit here. So now I have 3 HDDs in my system and 2 OS installed. I agree fs2004 beats fsx in heavy simming in many aspects, that start for me from FS Fuel Loader (still missing for fsx) :( . Even though I've spent much more than that, for about $1000 US you can build a computer that can run FSX with acceptable performance and HQ settings. Thanks to the affordable Sandy Bridge.

Yes, hello, Hiiflyer, or whoever you are, it won't really matter...:POK, granted you do need a higher FPS to run such a complex add-on such as the PMDG 747 or such, since they want to fly high without running like a child on sore feet. But if you even looked at the recent releases such as the A2A WOP3 Spitfire, do you have any ideas on how that will work in FS9? Did MS even release the famous SimConnect interface for FS9 to have A2A use their own utility to operate these warbirds? Even so, most things just won't work in FS9, and some of those, we most like. Oh, and those scenery stuff ya got there? Do you think the old VOZ looks better than the current ORBX FTX AU packages? Do you think the level of detail of scenery most FS9 sceneries have look better than those of FSX? Please leave me a reply here, or a private message if you wish.Dave.

This thread is going nowhere, as is usual with FS9 vs FSX topics - both are very good sims with different issues. Its ok to prefer one over the other as long as you do not try to force that preference on others, or insult others for their choice in sim. If you can, enjoy both. Let there be peace. TOPIC CLOSED.
