Now with Intels Haswell-E and X99 chipset on the market, how would for example the 6 core i7-5820K scale with FSX? Compared with for Example i7-4790K. 

 

The 4790K can maybe be OC to 4,7GHz and the 5820K to 4,5 GHz. Will the extra two cores make any diffrence? And will DDR4 memory be an advantage, even if it operates on the same speed as DDR3?

 

Also one can take into considiration that a system built on 5820K would probably be a couple of hundred Euros more expensive.

 

So feel free to speculate And of course if anyone have the possibility to run some test in FSXmark it would be very interesting!

Haswell-E is still Haswell, so clock for clock expect no difference. Re: extra cores, nothing FPS wise and 8 vs 6 cores, non factor for texture loading unless maybe at huge LODs at which you'll be OOMing day in and day out.

DDR4, well it remains to be seen. DDR3 brought about a 10% boost back in the day.

 

I'm gonna pass on Haswell-E myself. Hoping Skylake will bring a somewhat significant IPC increase given that it will be the next architecture and I have more than enough with 4 cores for my "heavy duty" PMDG / Leonardo Maddog style addons

I'm caught in a bit of a dilemma myself and I may take the same path. I sure hope Skylake has decent overclock headroom due to increasing temperatures due to such a small manufacturing process. 14NM will be even more sensitive to voltage ....  :unsure:

 

However, I could build a Haswell rig now and OC a 4690K to 4.4-4.7GHZ on closed loop water. Provided I pair the CPU with 2400MHZ/2600MHZ CL10/11, would it be realistic to expect around a 25-30% improvement over my current 4.8 SB/1866CL9?

More like a 15-20%, and part of that would be from faster memory you could run with your current SB too. I don't think it's worth it so that's why I'm waiting for Skylake myself. Before that, Broadwell should give us a few clues on 14nm and let Intel get the new manufacturing process ironed out for Skylake

Decided to go for the plunge to Haswell. Needless to say, I am very pleased so far. Got a hell of a deal for the CPU+Mobo. 4690K for $200 and the ASRock Extreme 4 for $105!! 

 

I'm now running at 4.5GHZ with 1.275v on the H100 has given me temps in the low 80s with IBT. - Paired with DDR3 2000 CL9, performance is wonderful in FSX. So far I've seen about a 10FPS boost in scenarios where I would be around 18-20FPS. This upgrade also appears to have greatly reduced any form of stuttering in the sim which is another big plus for me. 

 

Lastly, overclocking this chip has been a breeze. The whole process appears to be even easier than SB and within a few hours of installing windows, I already had it stable OC'ed. (Tested with P95 small FFT and IBT)

 

Overall, I am very happy with the upgrade. For those who are on the fringe for this generation, I'd say go for it if you can find a good price on motherboard, CPU, etc!

This was a ridiculously good result for such a cheap system.  Parts used:

 

Old Antec Case (free)

Old 750w PSU  (free)

MSI H81-E33 Motherboard  (£33)

G3258k CPU  (£43)

2 x 4gb Corsair XMS DDR3 1600  (£45)

Palit 1gb GTX460  (can be picked up for about £30odd)

64gb OCZ SSD for OS  (£20)

500gb Samsung HDD  (free)

Akasa Venom Nano CPU Cooler (£20)

 

Assuming u can get a cheap midi tower for £20-30 and a cheap PSU for around £40-50, this is a ridiculously cheap setup.

Indeed, Dario.  This was actually a better result than I got with my 2500k system when I was running it with the GTX460.  Gotta be the budget builders choice, especially coupled with a H81 board that you can get a reasonable overclock out of.  Very impressed to say the least.

Very good Cheap system, did a test with that CPU some time ago but i not buy anything, have to fast mems and Z97 Mobo and a leftover GTX690 to run.

That system was as fast as a 5ghz SandyBridge, its confirmed now.

Not really the thread for it to be honest. But the short answer... Yes. No and Maybe. Too many variables to answer intelligently. Might want to ask elsewhere.
