Follow this word for word. It should significantly improve your FPS.

Thanks, I have read through the guide and will try those things mentioned, but for the purposes of this thread wasn't I not allowed to make these changes? I was thinking of getting the highest FPS using fsxbench11 first and then utilising the tweaks or has the result posted also been using Kostas tweaks?

Ok so tried everything over the weekend I could think of... I have 3 corsair 120gb ssd drives, so first test were with original windows and clean FSX install--Avg 27 FPS

Tried another hard drive with new windows 7 64 bit install and new FSX install got Avg- 28 FPS..

Set mother board to bios default 3.9ghz got -24 FPS

Overclocked motherboard to 4.8ghz-- got blue screen on 2nd run of benchmark

Overclocked MOBO to 4.7ghz - Got Avg of 29FPS

Now I have always thought the memory was an issue since my Bios only ever sees 1600mhz and setting manually to 1866 always causes a bluescreen on boot.. I dont know alot aboutthese things but it was sugested to load the XMP profile which does allow me to boot, but dont know what it is actually doing.

So this bench mark is great being run to such strict guidlines becuase it gives a true idea of how harware is performing and has allowed me to confirm what I have thought for a while that something is wrong with my hardware.. Problem I have now is how to deal with it.. I have contacted a specialist Flight sim Pc builder and have stated if they can build a system and run the benchmarks test and get at least over 45FPS I will buy it, this might take some time though.. I guess that will teach me to try and build my own system..

In the mean time I will try and sort out waht is off with my current spec..

Comes to mind that maybe I have the wrong processor which is an Intel Core i7 2700K 3.50GHz Socket 1155 8MB L3 , I think I heard the L3 can give issues?

I have also ordered 3 different sets of memory to try Gskill 4gb 2133mhz c11 , Gskill 8gb 1866 c11,Gskill 4gb 2133mhz c11 so we will see if that makes a diference..

Its gonna be a battle of wills now, me against the PC im not going to settle for anything less than 45FPS and if I get lucky maybe even get a 50..

Im not completely nuts (well maybe a little) but I will be running 3 projectors in 3D off this thing with a 270FOV so I need all the Framerates I can get..

I see no one has tried the new X79, I7 3860 setup.. Should that see an increase?

Motherboard: Asus Maximus extreme iv z

RAM: Corsair Dominator 8GB DDR3-1866 cl9

Case: Corsair 600

Graphics Card: asus gtx590

Harddrives: Corsair Force GT 120GB SSD

You have to find out what's limiting you. Suspect nº1 would be the GPU. Post a screenshot of MSI Afterburner while running FSMark11.

Is your performance normal in other tests like 3D Mark, or Unigine Heaven Benchmark?

Also run some CPU benchmarks (Fritz, Cinebench....) and see if your scores are what they're supposed to be

I have some new memory coming and I have followed another post where a member had a similar issue, his fix was down to the GPU being in the wrong PCIE slot so I will test that tonight and see if it changes anything.

This is becoming a real eye opener. Now if I could just unlock my mind to get around all that overclocking locked chips implies.

Kind regards,

Impressive results! How were you temperatures on your CPU? Also, it seems that the super fast memory has partially made up for the losses in lower OC'ing.

Overall, this is the first time I have been somewhat less bleak about the whole IB OC deal. - Maybe it isn't as bad as we initially had thought. I am eager to see how other users' IB chips perform!

Is that PCIe 3.0 James?

Is that PCIe 3.0 James?

Presumably the bus is PCIe3 because he is using a PCIe3 native card paired with a PCIe3 CPU.

Yeah, now we need to know if that's a Z77 or a Gen 3 board he's using

It seems that his board might not be using PCIe3. Although, I don't think it makes a difference.

Unfortunately the results are no better than the

2600K and 2700K set ups with the GTX 580. Also I suspect the 3770K may not live too long at 1.41V. Nice to see the results though.
