Undocking a panel causes FPS to drop by half?

Recommended Posts

I just tried this for grins. I set it to DX10 mode and the problem went away. It's not a solution though because as soon as I move the undocked panel to another monitor the panel becomes just a blue/white FS logo, plus with all my add-ons DX10 Preview messes so much up. Interesting nonetheless.
Are you, by any chance, running with vertical sync forced on in the driver (or in a drive utility like nvidiainspector/ATITools)? That could cause your problem--in windowed mode there is no double-buffering of the video frame buffer, which can cause big hits to the frame rate.CheersBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

In catalyst it's called "Wait for Vertical Refresh"In FSX, there are a couple of params in the display section of fsx.cfg, one for full-screen, one for windowed mode (ForceFullScreenVSync=1 or ForceWindowedVSync=1)CheersBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

So after reading a few things posted above, I tried running FSX without the FPS limiter and bingo, the undocked windows frame rate drop disappeared. One window undocked (GPS) and moved to monitor #2 had no frame rate loss, two (TCAS radar) caused a slight loss in performance and three windows undocked caused another slight loss. FSX was still smooth however, so it was quite usable. I'd like to thank everyone for sharing their ideas; certainly helped me to solve this minor issue!

Like Andy said...With FPS Limiter set it to the double FPS ie. if You ran 30 FPS then set it to 60.Only problem is, that if I have no undocked windows on the 2. monitor then FPS on the main monitor is allowed to go up to 60.With panels undocked on 2. monitor FPS will be max at 30 as set.The good thing is that eventual big FPS spikes are caught and kept down by the FPS limiter - givinhg a smoother performance.Finn

Old topic but I'm wondering how people get on with this?

If I open up 2 viewports inside the main view, frame rate tanks, is this normal?

To avoid distortion, I see people running 3 monitors with 3 viewports. Center with VC view, then 2 other views showing 2 additional viewports (left and right VC window views). How are they able to maintain enough frame rate?
