Re: NGX impending release: Are we there yet?

There are models of yokes out there that are modeled exactly off the 737 and 747 with the exact same handling characteristics, Mind you they'll set you back about $2,999...Thinking.gif
Ronan,Thanks for the info, I,ve checked out some,One is a 737 Yoke Cirrus Model by Precision Flight Controls, don't know how much it costs yet.It would be good if the PMDG Team could some time in the near future recommend a particular set up that works very wellwith the NGX.Regards,Stewart T

So um what's this with the manual? Will there be a little manual ( like my 747s) that tells you how to use the product e.g how to use the menu or something and a short bit that gives a short flight tutorials and a checklist like a tutorial? Is that only the disk version? What was it like for the download of pmdg's otter product? Did it get the manual in the download or not? Joe Barton

That's the yoke I have Stewart and it's one of the best on the market.Works faultlessly with all my add-ons and it should have no problems with the NGX (IMHO).It was worth 1200 bucks when I bought it, but I paid less than half of that.I would have been happy to pay the 1200, it's that good!Frank Cooper

Word Not Allowed-At this time, we are prohibited from discussing Microsoft Flight, the impact we feel it will have on the hobby-simmer, or whether or not we wish to support that platform in its currently planned format.
You know something we don't....lol

Microsoft is looking at dramatically changing the way that the whole third party add-on things work. Not going to go into details, or elaborate anymore than that. Robert made a post a long time ago about a meeting he had with MS about the future of FS (before the demise of Aces) that pretty much echoes the direction they are still continuing to go. Without going any further than that everyone will see the direction they are going as time goes on, and that everyone is going to have to make their own choices. Myself I am just wanted the NGX to be released!!! (by the way you almost had me with the April fools joke, very crafty)

I hope it is not a case were MS will only allow 3rd party addons via its Windows Live functionality and in turn demands a percentage of every 3rd party addon bought as a right for the dev to sell something for use on its base platform, Flight.

Stewart - that type of hardware is extremely expensive and believe it or not, those companies aren't just sending free examples of it to us. Pretty much all of us on the PMDG team fly with normal consumer joystick/yokes and such. That's what we're designing for - the best feel on the standard hardware people are likely to actually have the means to purchase. I seriously doubt there's any detriment to getting expensive hardware like that PFC yoke, but I'm just making it clear that we don't have it and thus can't make some sort of guarantee that it's going to feel exactly like the real yoke does etc... That may not even be possible honestly, the real yoke in most airliners is fed by a complex "artificial feel generator" that produces the actual resistance and whatnot that the pilots feel. It's like an extremely high-level version of a force-feedback joystick. Even these expensive yokes and stuff aren't doing that - they're just springs or whatever that give a constant resistance all the time, which isn't how the real ones work.

Ryan, how about this one:http://www.flightillusion.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=95:force-feedback-yoke-now-on-sale&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=28I know it is new and expensive but looks very promising. However except a small video in YouTube showing the movement of the yoke on autopilot I could not find any feedback on it.Have any of you guys heard any positive (or negative) feedback about it?CHeers

I tried countless hours searching on google for a review and nothing. In a marketing and commercial point of view that deeply sucks. If they they don't lend it to some website like Avsim, how can they expect to see customers spend 1600 euros blindly ?Ben

The lack of reviews (often completely missing) for "high-end" hardware like that has always been the problem. However, I think everyone should keep in mind that the high price of these products does not necessarily reflect the overall build quality or realism factor. One reason I believe these special products are so expensive, is that they come from relatively small manufacturers, who often produce only a few of those items at a time. It's not a massive product line that sells lots of units per year.

They could double or triple their sell if we had an Avsim review.Right now it's like buying a 10 000 bucks, half dozen crate of "surprise" wine.Ben
Why don't you just buy a 737 while your at it? sleep.gifIm JK.
hehe I wish Cry.gif
