March 31, 201115 yr Hi everyone,Few days ago i was "playing" with my CPU overcloking it and I played so hard! hehe. Now It's gone and I have to change it but I dont know if change just the CPU and stay in 775 or go for a 1155 and change almost everythingActually my specs are:MoBo Asus Striker ExtremeC2D E6750 (R.I.P. hehe)4x1 GB DDR2 PC6200 OCZ Reaper HeatPipe 5-4-4-15Gigabyte GTX460Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200Zalman 460W I do'nt remember the model....And I have two options:MoBo ASRock P67 Pro3 B3Intel i3 2120 Stock clock2x2 GB Kingston HyperX DDR3 1333 7-7-7-20288€ - 405$orjust change de CPU to a Q8400 and a really good cooler like the Noctua NH-C14 and overclock it220€ - 309$I want that cooler because it's awesome and its multisocket so i have cooler for a long time....What do you think? Thanks in advance
March 31, 201115 yr It cost me less than $500 for new MB,RAM and I5 2500k. I came from a E8500 @ 4ghz. From the little experimentation I have done so far, I can say without a doubt that it will be a very worthy upgrade. So far with the I5 I easily get to 4.7 with temps below 60 under full load. I'm guessing 4.8 should be very easy to obtain. But don't get an I3...I5 2500k at the minimum.
March 31, 201115 yr But don't get an I3...I5 2500k at the minimum.and i5-2500k at the max since 2600k provides no further benefit (for FSX at least) Corey Meeks FS2020 | AMD 7800X3D | ASUS ProArt 4080 Super | ASUS B650E-I Mini ITX | 2x32Gb DDR5-6000 CL32 | DELL 38" U3818DW (3840x1600) | FormD T1 | Thermalright AXP90-47 | Thermaltake Toughpower SFX 1000W
March 31, 201115 yr Indeed, now is the time for a major upgrade. And yet, it depends on what you are after. I fly no add ons, so my rig runs FSX good enough, and without any cfg tweaks. You might need a little stronger PSU. My FS9 rig has a C2D 6750 in it. I don't hear that CPU mentioned much. It's the only reason I chimed in here. A kindred (though departed) spirit. Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
March 31, 201115 yr Author What about this config?Intel i5 2500kAsus P8P67-M B3Kingston HyperX DDR3 1333 PC3-10666 4GB 2x2GB CL7I think this is going to be the chosen one...
March 31, 201115 yr I would recommend 1600MHz CL7 ram, but either way that setup would get it done Corey Meeks FS2020 | AMD 7800X3D | ASUS ProArt 4080 Super | ASUS B650E-I Mini ITX | 2x32Gb DDR5-6000 CL32 | DELL 38" U3818DW (3840x1600) | FormD T1 | Thermalright AXP90-47 | Thermaltake Toughpower SFX 1000W
March 31, 201115 yr Author But i can reach that speed making some OC to them. They are designed to do that. But what about the uATX format of the mobo? Am i going to have troubles with my actual case? It's for ATX
March 31, 201115 yr Shouldn't be a problem. If your case is ATX it should have holes for motherboard standoff screws for uATX. You can double check by removing the current motherboard. What case do you have? March 31, 201115 yr I´m also going tpo upgrade with pritty the same. Also the i5-2500k, 4 GB of Mushkin Blackline DDR3 1600MHz and a Asus P8P67 Pro Revision 3 MOBO. It will cost me about 400€ and I will have fun for quite a time. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
April 3, 201115 yr Going from the 6000 series C2D to even the 45nm 8000 series you'll notice a big jump in how far you can overclock. The E8600 with a 10x multiplier would be able to hit 4.5GHz on your motherboard easily. The Striker 2 E is a great overclocking board. A new chip will set u back about $150 shipped on eBay, so take that into consideration.Oops! Just saw you dont have the striker 2, only the striker 1. In this case, yes upgrade.
