Autosave not working

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have just come across a problem with FS9. In the past when I crashed on landing the sim would just take me back to the spot where the crash occurred without closing down. I also use "Autosave" and I could just click on "Flights" and click on the saved file and I would be back to where I wanted to be. Now, the sim will not take me back to the "crash" point at all and I get booted to my desktop and FS9 just restarts. Is there a setting I may have inadvertenly unactivated or activated that may be causing this (eg. realism crash settings)? Thanks,Tom

I can't retrieve flights I've saved manually en route either: the process stalls in the "Load Scenery, Weather, Traffic" stage: the status bar never moves off 0% and then FS9 crashes to the desktop.Sort of limits all but the shortest hops if flights have to be completed in one sitting!

OK, I've just done a small test and I removed autosave.dll from my Modules Folder in FS9. I started up FS9 and purposely crashed the Cessna, and lo and behold the sim regenerated (restarted) itself, which is what I expected. So it's my autosave.dll, but I've never had problems with autosave before, so what would cause it now? I'm really stumped here....LOL. I'm going to reinstall autosave.dll into my modules folder and retry now and see if it happens again.Tom

Thanks for the reply Denis. Through trial & error I determined that the culprit(s) were POSKY's new 757-200 and Lonnie Paynes 757 panel. I interchanged both with panels and aircraft I know do not give me a problem like this. Lo and behold those two addons crashed my system. So I have deleated them from my HD (regretfully mind you), and replaced them with the Primo (iFDG) 757-200 A/C (FS2002 mind you, but it seems to work alright in FS9) and Chris Jeanne's 757 panel. Everything works fine now. If I crash the sim will reposition me at the spot where the crash occurred or I can choose a flight from through autosave. I'm back to normal now...LOL. Just my system I guess. Didn't like those two addons.Regards, thanks to everyone for your replies.Tom

I did wonder if the cause was in there somewhere.I do like those addons - although I may look at the ifdg 757.Otherwise, I'd better not start anything I can't finish and avoid crashing. Easy!!

Guest LonzoTWA

Hello,I am sorry my panel was not working for you. I believe I know what the problem is. As stated in the readme file, the panel must be saved with the top 4 simicon windows open. Since these windows will not be open when you crash, the flight is saved with the windows closed. This is more than likely why it happens. The reason for this is the way the gauges load. The gauges talk to each other and if those panels are not open, a gauge will be trying to get information from another gauge that is not loaded yet. The 757 was the first panel I programmed gauges for and I have since started using a different technique and I have eliminated this problem. I hope one day to make the 757 from the ground up again and incorporate some of the better techniques I have learned. I am also using methods that are more friendly to your system. Once again, sorry it is not working for you, but I hoped you liked it.Lonny

It's one of the best panels I've seen, and I for one intend to go on using it! It's good to know what the problem is however. I take it you mean that the windows that the simicons operate need to be open? i.e. the Overhead, Throttle, FMC and Failure Panel need to be visible when saving? As my problem was with manual saves rather than autosaves, that could be arranged. You'll be pleased to know that I have located the manual for version 1.1 - I'd lost that somewhere in getting the base panel from the FS2002 auto-installer into FS9.If you are working on it at any time, the one thing I do miss is Rob Barendregt's Groundhandling/Pushback gauges or something similar - it's only once in a hundred that I can get any aircraft to turn left or right in pushback and taxiing about looking at all those nice new taxiway signs in FS9 is a lot easier if somebody else is controlling the taxi speed!

You bet Lonnie. I love your panel almost as much as my wife...(tongue in cheek)...Seriously though I'll just have to become such a great virtual pilot that I never crash, perfect landings every time...LOL!! That way I won't have to worry about the semicons problem. Keep up the great work Lonnie 'cause your one of the best. Looking forward to your MD80 panel as well. Thanks for your contribution to the FS community as well.Regards,Tom Stewart
