navaid coordinates question

Just wondering how to translate coordinates for a navaid in one form to another. Example: Flightsim 2004 has the format N42*14.8 W70*53.35Online at some sites they have a format of (and this is for a different navaid): Lat/Long: 42-29-41.900N / 071-33-12.270WHow would you change the second format to that of the first? The reason I ask is that I'm trying to add navaids to flightsim so that I can input those navaids into my FMC. Thanks,Chris

I think you'd take seconds/60 and add that to the minutes, i.e 41.900/60=.6998 so 42-29-41.900N becomes N42° 29.6998' and 12.270/60=.2045 so 071-33-12.270W becomes W71° 33.2045'I doubt if adding them as scenery to FS9 will make them available to the FMC though because they normally use airac data of their own from navigraph rather than the sim's scenery database. The default GPS will be able to use them though.Jim

Thanks, That follows what was said in another forumn. With the PMDG 737 FMC all I had to do was input the navaid and coordinates and put down the Fix's for the approaches in the Text file for that airport (or any airport text file for that matter). It was great having the FMC match up with the charts.Chris Porter

Cool, I've added intersections to FSNav's database but never tried the PMDG, that's good to know. BTW I think I made a math error above, it should have been 41.900/60=0.6983 so 42-29-41.900N becomes N42° 29.6983'. Dislexia (or brain-fart) I guess :smile:Jim

It was close enough. Not too difficult to add navaids to PMDG but the wording or placing of terms is important to get right. Chris Porter
