Scenery Cache

How does one completely disable scenery cache in FS2002?Everytime I exit FS2002 I always seem to have an extra entry added to my Scenery.cfg entries in relation to the Cache, and I do not believe I used to have such an entry added before...Stamatis

The fs2002 scenery.cfg should have two entries about cache:[General]Title=FS2002 World SceneryDescription=FS2002 Scenery DataClean_on_Exit=TRUECache_Size=102400K[Cache.000]Title=Default Texture CacheLocal=textureRemote=scenedbtextureActive=FALSEYou can change the Clean_on_Exit= to false under the Scenery Library settings menu. You can try setting the Active= to TRUE and see what it might do to your scenery.W. Sieffert

Thank you!Something must have turned my cache on, because I have been getting a lot of disk activity lately which is accompanied by stutters. I did not have such problems when the Cache was not activated.I guess the line "Active=FALSE" under the [Cache.000] section is what I was looking for.Stamatis

Another thing to check--check your scenery.cfg for any entry that has text after the line "remote="....That will also turn on the cache for that specific item. To turn it off, you can either do it in the scenery manager or by moving the text after the "remote=" to the line that starts with "local=". Caching is something you want if the item is being fetched from a CD--that's the whole purpose of the MSFS cache folder--to store 'oft used files from a CD since HD access is still faster. What I'm finding is some third party scenery designers don't seem to know this. They use a wizard which auto installs the scenery, and automatically caches it. Makes no sense if the scenery is on the HD already, as it makes the HD work twice as hard by copying the scenery from one spot on the HD to another before use....-John

Hello John,"some third party scenery designers don't seem to know this. They use a wizard which auto installs the scenery, and automatically caches it"That is exactly what I think happened to me.I will search for any "remote= " entries. Thanks!Stamatis
