Magnetic variation updates for FS9 and FSX!

Recommended Posts

Then here comes my question: when this happens in the real world, how can runway designations be updated in FSX? One option of course, is that if it's an addon scenery, developer would normally publish an update. But when it's a default scenery, or the developer doesn't publish any update, what can be done in that case? Thanks!

The physical rwy doesn't change. Only the designation. So you have two choices either change it in the afcad or change the bmp files in the scenery.

Payware airports are one option to correct FSX runways that have changed in R/W, but there is another option. There are many free updated airport AFCAD files available in the AVSIM file library. I can heartily recommend those produced by Ray Smith - the man is an excellent designer who has gone way above the call of duty in updating FSX airports - having produced dozens and dozens of updates over the years.

I've just noticed that since 1st Jan, there has been a 2015 update available for the magdec.bgl file.

It claims for FSX, but by any chance does it work in FSX-SE?

It should as far as I don't think the magdec.bgl file structure has changed from what it was in FSX and/or is used differently (the same is true for P3D). Anyway you may give it a try. It will not hurt as far as you backup the original.

Where is this file available? I searched the AVSIM library but could only locate a much older file.

Edit:  Disregard above, found link in first post of this thread -- thanks.
