Adding AI aircraft - why do they crash or not land? Hel...

Recommended Posts

Would appreciate some advice from someone more skilled than I am at adding AI aircraft into FS2004 (especially at UK airfields)I have added four RAF Vulcan bombers to RAF Fairford as AI traffic. All appear fine and taxi and depart into the circuit as instructed. However when it comes to their landing clearance they either just continue flying the circuit or sometimes attempt to land off the airfield despite being cleared (and accepting clearance) onto the "live" runway.I added a couple of Eurofighters to the Duxford scenery with some Spitfires. The Spitfires taxi,take-off and land fine but the Eurofighter drops out of the sky on approach and crashes into the runway and disappears!I guess I need to change "something" in the aircraft.cfg of these aircraft (Eurofighter and Vulcan)?Any clues would be most welcomeRegardsAdam Moore

I assume you are using non-AI aircraft. In that case you should to get .air-files that are specially made for AI as .air-files that are good for manual flying are normally horrible for AI (and vice versa). You'll probably have to adapt something made for another (similar) type of aircraft, which will probably require some heavy editing of the aircraft.cfg (which interacts with the .air-file in strange ways).- Oyvind

Hi OyvindThanks for the information. Yes these are both "non AI" aircraft so I guess I will have to fiddle with their "air" files(yes have made copies of the original folders so I don't mess up the flyable versions!)Does anyone know how I VIEW the .air files? Is there an editor available to edit the file I wonder?Maybe there is a specialist AI forum somewhere (couldn't one specifically on AVSIM).RegardsAdam Moore

Sounds like you need to change the .air files around. Where did you find a Vulcan and Spitfires from?

Yes hoping someone will see this post and let me know how I can edit the .air file for my ai aircraft. The Spitfire is available from AVSIM (Version XIV) and the Vulcan is payware from PSS. Both super aircraft - especially the Vulcan which has fantastic sounds.RegardsAdam

>Yes hoping someone will see this post and let me know how I>can edit the .air file for my ai aircraft.Try the AVSIM file library by searching for aired.zip. Even though it's labeled FS98, it still does the trick (version 1.41).Kevin
