Flickering outside of Cockpit View

Featured Replies

Hello.... I guess that this question goes to Jim, but any help is appreciated. I have been a loyal user of Active Sky for years, and upgraded to ASE about 12 to 18 months ago. Up until now, it worked flawlessly, and I do not fly without it...However, yesterday I began noticing a blue flickering (may not be an accurate description but when looking through the Cockpit glass in precipitation, the screen flashes from blue to normal several times a second.) This may be related to the aircraft (PMDG Beech 1900) or to the specific weather I was in. Yesterday in Utah, and today in Jamaica.... I am unsure. I have not downloaded and installed the new version update that is announced in the forum, and will do so soon. Also, I must add that this does not occur in any of the spot views, nor does it happen over the instruments... it only happens when looking out of the cockpit to the outside world....Any ideas..Also, I am running W7 with three monitors thru Eyefinity and Quad four system. I have made no system changes in months, and this just started yesterday. Thanks in advance.BobAlso, let me add that this only seems to happen in percipitation.. Yesterday, I thought it might be Verge (sp).. but I don't think that they have that in Jamaica... ThanksBob

Hi Bob,I'll assume FSX being used here. Please try with a default FSX plane.

Jim... yes it is FSX.. I will try with another plane and let you know if it persists.... And, I presume that you recommend that I do the download the newer version...ThanksBob

Jim, I can attest that flickering does happen while using Quality Wings 757 and viewing from the VC mode and looking up. It does happen while viewing externally and looking upward. Frame rates take a hit while this is going on. After a minute or 2 it stops. Maybe this is occurring during a wx update. I ran several default aircraft without ASE running and did not have the issue occur. I am now using FSX on Win 7 64. This is a new pc with ASE and REX. QW 757 is the only addon aircraft I have installed at the moment. Will try the 757 w/out ASE running. Joe

Hi Joe, Are you using Standard Depiction Mode in ASE?

Yes, sir...I did use Standard but today I switched over to DWC with a default aircraft. No flickering at all but I have not tried the 757 yet with DWC. I will have to do this later today. Joe

Ok, I tried DWC with the Quality Wings 757 and had no flickering issues as before in the Standard mode. However. It did cause major autopilot problems and very erratic speed and altitude fluctuations even with wind smoothing set up in FSUIPC.. So, the only option I have is the middle selection within the settings. It worked like a charm. It's really a shame that I only have one option now but I guess that's the way it is. Joe

Hi, FYI, the flickering is not because of ASE, but because of SimConnect. Many other SC programs may cause this very same flickering. Just wanted everyone to be aware so that people don't think this is ASE causing this issue.

That's good to know, but can you point me in the direction of what can be done regarding SimConnect? What are you referring to with regards to "SC"? Not familiar with that term.

Joe

Hi, Microsoft stopped developing SimConnect a long time ago, so nothing is going to be done with SimConnect anymore. Any thoughts on this should be directed to Microsoft. SC stands for SimConnect, as it is a bit easier to type SC than SimConnect.

No different than what has been suggested for about 2 years now with planes that are highly sensitive to wind shifts.

Hello-Is there a way to turn off SC or disable it somehow? I don't like using DWC because I don't like the constant changes and mono-weather but I can only use standard mode when flying low and slow because the frame rate hit from the SC flickering at airliner speeds is too much. Thanks.

Hi, Nothing would be able to communicate with FSX if you turned off or disabled SimConnect. Also, DWC does not produce mono-weather. When the data calls for conditions to change, the conditions will change based on the data.

Oh. thanks. What I meant by mono-weather is that the entire area is given whatever weather is reported by the station you're closest to instead of having clear weather off to the right and cloudy off to the left or something like you get in the standard mode. Is that difference the reason you get flickering in standard but not DWC?

Hi, Ah, OK now I know what you mean. No, it's due to some programming in SimConnect.
