How real FSX weather can be?

Recommended Posts

We know some softwares that try to make FSX weather more real: winds, freezing, turbulence etc... But how real are they? I think most of them don't simulate real thunderstorms or the severe damages a thunderstorm can cause to an aircraft. Could a software integrate this "real" weather with PMDG's navigation display? Thanks,Teo Halfen

So you're asking about a weather radar again?Well let's just say it isn't possible due to the weather engine FSX has got. Also where do you want to get the real datas from? Off cause there are weather stations and so on, but no one does know the position of every cloud in such a great detail you'd need to make a proper simulation out of it which suites PMDG quality.

Teo,No we cannot simulate real thunderstorms or the severe damages a thunderstorm can cause. FS is not a training simulation for these types of things. Lastly, in the real world you try to avoid these types of conditions, not purposely attempt to fly through them. The idea is to live, not have your plane break apart in mid-air.

I am starting to not like people on this forum..... I hope they stick to flight simulator and stay out of real world flying.... It seems as if all these people want to do is BREAK their airplanes.... :) just messing around about not liking people, but everyone wants something to go wrong it seems.- Frank Ventura

hehe how true Frank. It's amusing. Once people start getting an idea of what the new 37's fidelity is going to be like, they start asking about all sorts of crazy things.

Same people wanting to break the 737 will be the same people asking how to start the airplane.

Thanks for the answers....Just asking about the technical possibility of a software like "Active Sky" to integrate a weather radar over PMDG's navigation display... and simulate dangerous thunderstorms like the real ones... it's always great fun to deviate from them... or paying the price for trying to cross them.Teo Halfen

I guess somebody will hack the new 737,the old one has been.http://www.mythicalireland.com/other/planes/flight-simulator/PMDG-737-weather-radar/PMDG-737-weather-radar.php

Can't simulate weather radar in FSX, there is no precipitation data. And PMDG don't want to make a cloud finder, it's not how weather radars work.

What if you wanted to simulate a "Hurrican Hunter" mission?

"How real is FSX Weather with sophisticated addons?"The fact that you can fly through a squall-line or Super-Cell Thunderstorm without getting an "Aircraft Overstressed" crash - or even losing control of the aircraft - should answer that question. :( Let's face it, you can't even bring down a hang-glider in FSX during severe icing conditions with hail. Weather is the simulators most obvious weak-point.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

No, MS has made a real good weather engine in their FS! When you choose the weather model "Clear skies" you get the most realistic weather you can get. No sim's better. And also this theme provides all the data necessary for a weather radar. This is the secret feature in FSX. :( Beleave me, even PMDG has modelled the weather radar for this theme due to this good weather simulation :(

Hope MS Flight will do weather properly including radar. Its the only thing I feel that let's down the experience, especially flying on VATSIM.Pete Walsh.
