Is it too hot?

Hi Guys,This is my first post in this discussion so I just wanted to know, are my CPU temperatures too hot? Im running an Intel i& 940 @ 2.93 GHz :)Temperature are about 50C on all 4 cores :)Some are just going below 50 to about 45C but most are at 50CIs this ok? Or do I ideally need these to be lower? I have an air conditioning fan pointing down to my PC but isnt really doing much, but I've just put it there...Any tips?Regards,Tristan

Hi Tristan,the limit where it will do thermal throttling is 90C so you fine. Look at it like Flex temp on a jet engine. The more you back away from max the more life you get. My i7-920 is running at 70C under full load. at idle it hovers about 40C. See below for specsHave a good day,

For a non-overclocked system, it's too high if it's idle temperature, it's good if it's under load.On idle and with normal ambient temperatures, you should be below 40°C.

Thanks Guys,To let you know this computer is NOT Overclocked in any way... Atleast I dont think it is! I dont have any clue how to do Overclocking :/Any tips on how to get the temps down below 40C??Regards,

Really no need if you reach the 50°C when playing games. That would be fine and not the slightest cause for worries. If this is the max you reach, leave your computer alone :-)

If, and only if the temperatures are while gaming (load temperature) in their 50s, then it's doing fine for a non-overclocked standard-cooler computer. No need to change anything.Observe the temperature while not doing anything, that is also interesting. So called idle temperature.

Well Tristan my I5 2500K at 4.4 Ghz is running Idle at 28C and full load prime95 around 60C :-) on Air...Make sure you have Silver Artic 5 (60% of the cooling effect lol) grease (thin layer between your cpu and cooler) a good CPU cooler + a decent case (chassis can influence the cooling too) and several case fans 120mmCheers,

I found out the problem.... Im using a Stock cooler! Intel E29477 - 002 :P Stupid!Im looking at the Corsair A70 to replace it.. It looks pretty big! Not sure if it will fit! :PAny other good reccomendations for coolers?

I'm back at 4 because I was getting BSOD's about two weeks after building my rig... still have yet to find out why... it certainly wasn't temps..Anyway at 4GHz with IBT I will hover around 63C on core #3 (I only state it because #3 is the highest temp observed). With P95 and 4 workers, after 12+ hrs temps were averaging 62-63 again, on core 3. I'm only at a 1.3 vcore.

Well FSX full load I have 44c till 51c on air :-)It's not only the cooler but a combination of things in my case...- good chassis of the case- case fans- airflow in case- Silver Artic 5 (makes the difference on any cooler)- good CPU coolerNow back to your question I've got a Scythe Yasya...I have to say FSX is screaming on SB with Win7 64 Bit :-)

For over clocking the guidance is stop errors to tweak your system...A bit high for water?Amazing how easy SB is going beyond 4 ghz my self settle for 4.4ghz 24/7 because I like to have low temps and my 2500K has a higher vid, but with a - offset I have it cool and stable and LLC not on ultra :-)

I realize it's closed loop but I really wouldn't call it water cooling... FSX temps at 4GHz... 50ish... When people say water I think of those expensive systems with glowing tubes and huge radiators externally hehe. The H60/50/70 cool like a DH14... though the DH14's probably a bit better than the 50 and 60. Should be interesting to see what the H100 brings to the table.
