I think I am missing something when Overclocking

Recommended Posts

I have been following this instruction guide to overclock my 2500Khttp://www.techreaction.net/2011/01/04/3-step-overclocking-guide-%E2%80%93-sandy-bridge-v0-1beta/2/I have my CPU multiplier up to 46 and the vCore up to 1.35V. Windows starts fine and when I run Prime95 or OCCT I am getting core temps of 59 or 60 C. So far no problem. No BSOD or anything like that so far.The issue is that the core speed when the test are running starts out at 4600 and then drops off after a minute or two to 4100 or 3900 then maybe back up to 4300 but not consistently at 4600. Now I do have the auto throttle down features of the processor enabled but according to the guide above this should no matter. I did try turning them off but it did not make any difference.Looking for some expert advice on how to proceed. thanks,Mark.

Turn it off for stress testing, after you pass Prime95 or Occt you can enable it if you want, if you don't pass any stress test with the auto throttle disable you will probably need a little more voltage on the core....good luck.

Still have not been able to overclock and have the OC remain at the set level. I have disabled almost everything that I think will cause it to throttle down. On the bright side ASRock has an auto overclock utility that I set for 4.6 and it did stay at the set level when running OCCT and Prime95. Temps for cores 1&4 remained around 68/69 with Cores 2&3 at 77/78 degrees C. I ran FSX at this setting and all temps stayed below 62C. I think I will try 4.8 next and see what happens.Mark.

Use CPU-Z to see if your OC is fluctuating, after opening CPU-Z look to see if the core spedd is changing, if not you'r good to go, if it's fluctuating it's because you forgot to disable something in bios, your OC will go down and up in stress testing it's kinda normal.Let us know what's happening...

I had CPU-Z and Core Temp running during the tests. When I use the ASRock Overclock utility the speed is stable at 4600, when I try it myself it fluctuates. I have not had a chance yet but I am going to look through the BIOS screens to figure out what I have not disabled and then I plan to push to 4.8. I may try for higher if it works but only for the fun of it not to keep at those settings for normal use....I really want the processor to last a while.Mark.
