How do I choose a superb aircraft?

I have been away from FSX for some years and am now dipping my toe back into what had always been a wonderfully absorbing hobby. The last year was spent almost exclusively learning how to handle the superb PMDG 747 and now I'm back again with a powerful Apple iMac which includes a separate partition solely for FSX. I would like to get my feet wet again with an aircraft that's not one of the Heavies and am seeking something smallish with an excellent visual of the instruments in order to take advantage my new computer. I'd appreciate suggestions to consider. Cliff Harris

really depends what you looking for. Both mentioned above is awesome.. The JS41 is a steep learning curve as is any plane by PMDG as everything is modelled.If you after small GA.. look into the new katana X4 from aerosoft.. Now they have set the bar with very interactive walkaround/engine and systems management with maintenance/service module that yiou use for system/engine degrading. It is a steal what you get for only a few bucks.

If you REALLY wanted to get back to basics, the A2A Piper Cub with Accu-sim is great.

I would look at anything from RealAir Simulations... The Scout, the SF260, and especially the brand new Turbine Duke (Avsim review coming up..) are all excellent.

Cliffardus, I think you need to describe your preferences in some more detail.I mean, you would never go wrong with e. g. any Realair plane, but if everybody now drops his favourite birds, you gain as much outcome as before asking the question.Great GA and great instruments could lead to many good planes, depending if you e. g. want to have completely "steam" ones, or that partial GPS integration or a great G1000 in it.If you were up to some character and history lesson, maybe even the great A2A planes come into view. They won't offer any modern nav setup, but their Spitfire just knocks you off your shoes when it comes to quality and immersion.Or do you need some amphi or float conversion too?So, where do you want to go, fellow sim pilot? :(

Fly it around ORBX PNW/KORS scenery and you will find yourself in flight sim nirvana.(warning) you will have to "learn" how fly this thing. And I don't mean pressing buttons.

That depends what he wants. If he wants to enjoy "low and slow" VFR flights, then I would suggest that the standard Duke is a far better option than the Turbine Duke. It is a lot easier to handle than the Turbine, and doesn't have the urge to head for orbit with the slightest push on the throttle!
