Help Me please! FS9 Has ran out of memory

Featured Replies

Hi guys, This has happend a few times and is really frustrating, while im in flight a prompt comes up "FS9 has ran out of memory" followed by fs9 is not responding. Strange as i have 59 GB free of 115GB on my hardrive. Can anyone help me? Very annoying as im a regular VATSIM flyer, and the summer hols are now in so thats what i do in my spare time.

Do some search on the OOM and 3GB switch. Here's something for a starter:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/264906-3gb-switch/page__p__1659234__hl__3gb+switch__fromsearch__1#entry1659234

There are plenty of subjects which cover this. As Rafal mentioned search through the forums and see what you come up with. If it makes you feel any better most of us have suffered from this (I certainly have anyway)and I was able to fix it. Think very carefully about any scenery or any other add-ons that you have installed prior to you running out memory. I am no expert, but my understanding is, in very layman terms, your computer is searching for something that is not there, like a missing texture file or something. Anyway come back here if you have no joy and I am sure someone can help. Tristan

I suspect it's complaining about computer RAM, not disk space, so the hard drive is not a factor. How much RAM do you have, and what operating system (XP, Vista, Windows 7) are you running? You may get away with something as simple as increasing the size of your swap file. This is a disk space that the operating system (OS) uses to temporarily stash part of its RAM when it runs out. If you're doing this a lot, it's a sign that you need to add RAM to your computer.

OOM errors have nothing to do with swap file or phys ram. OOM error is the result of running out of virtual address space and it is a limit of a 32bit operating systems and applications. As Rafal said do a search on here for it.Also read here...http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ptaylor/archive/2007/06/15/fsx-and-win32-process-address-space.aspx

With all due respect barfbag, I call BS on everything you said in regards to relating this to FS... yes, you got the definition of a swap file right but the rest of it is steering the OP WAY down the wrong road.Read the links and search for OOM, this horse has been beat to death time after time after time...

I also started experiencing the out of memory problem when I installed Ground Environment Pro and Ultimate Terrain. I did the 3GB switch (I've got Windows XP Home) but a problem occured: when I select Windows to operate in 3GB mode there is some problem with the graphic card drivers, specifically 3D objects are then 2D objects. In FS cumulus clouds looked like stratus...Lately I changed my graphic card to GeForce GT430 and all the drivers were installed by the guys from the computer shop so I think that the drivers are up to date. So is there a solution to this problem?Would be very grateful for help!

Is your sim and gfx control panel set to 32bit colours?

HiThe OOM and similar errors are very hard to track.First, try to disable AI traffic, because corrupted texture could lead also to mem leak which will result in OOM.Try to use filemon , I think the new name for that program is processor monitor or something like that.It will show You what is happening during fs9 running. For example missing texture files (scenery) would also lead to mem leak.In a past I had strange g3d.dll error every time around Aerosoft EBBR. I tried everything without success. After new OS installation (W7 64 bit, before that I had WinXP 64bit) everything worked OK. No problems around EBBR.Still I don't know what solved problem.Read about OOM:http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/19147-ooms-ctds-and-maybe-more/

Of course it is. Well I have just solved the problem - I don't know how it is possible but the FS settings have changed without my intervention after changing the XP mode :( FS set the setting to simple clouds...BTW: Maybe the best solution not to get the out of memory error and a solution that would allow FS benefit from all the hardware resources that I have would be to install Windows 7? Do all the applications and FS add-ons run with x64 version of Win 7 w/o any problems?

HiI don't know is it solution with W7 64bit, but I don't have any problem with this oS na fs9.Just be sure to install fs9 in non default directory like X:\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9 with UAC OFF and admin rights. All addons I have works OK. As I know Reality XP does not work, but I'm not 100% sure because I don't have it.Edin

I've solved my problem with OOMs with this method:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/339853-wilco-airbuses-memory-leak/page__view__findpost__p__2029908
