TCA (Terminal Control Area) - VFR Corridors on Charts

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at the Minneapolis TCA chart. I see jet approach/departure paths plotted but nothing indicating preferred VFR transit corridors. Are these shown on some chart somewhere or am I missing them on this. I have the local WAC chrt but there is no indication other than the TCA boundaries.(This is for simming purposes but I used to fly real prop stuff and had to quit shortly after TCAs were implemented.)

The term TCA, or Terminal Control Area, was replaced several years ago with the term Class B Airspace. You used the term TCA charts, but I think you meant VFR Terminal Area Charts.I don't have a copy of the Minneapolis VFR Terminal Area Chart, but many of these charts now have a diagram on the back indicating preferred VFR routes that will keep you out of Class B airspace and away from heavy jet aircraft. You can read about VFR Flyways, VFR Corridors, and Class B Airspace VFR Transition routes in section 3-5-5 of the Aeronautical Information Manual available on line at:http://www.faa.gov/atpubs/aim/Chap3/aim0305.htmlHope that helps ...John
