What monitor does the NGX deserve?

Featured Replies

3D isn't a big deal to me, we're unlikely to see it in flight sims for a while anyway. The Asus one doesn't show the refresh rate either anyway, though a quick Google search reveals that it is also 60 Hz.

We are seeing it in FSX ..... today ...

Really? What's the price difference between a 3D monitor (with all the stuff needed to get it to work with flight sim, if any) and a comparable 2D monitor?

Slightly older Apple 24in Cinema. Works wonderfully for FSX.

I am confused by your line of questions. First I thought you doubted technical possibility of 3D in flight simulation but now you seem to reduce the problem to cost. Yes, there is an additional cost, 3D glasses from Nividia and a 3D capable monitor, these are incremental costs, not (IMHO) huge jumps. Since there are dozens of monitors you can easily find the prices and do your own comparison and cost-benefit analysis.

OT: How big is the monitor it deserves? Knock out all the internal walls of your house and then get the best projector money can buy.

Best Regards,

Dan Parkin.

Hi Lee, Did you have to do something to convert from the DVI format to the Apple format (I think the currebt monitors from Apple have the mini-port format). Thanks, Bruce.

mine LCD is Dell U2410 24'' 1920x1200 IPS panel with very good color reproduction. I'm very happy with it and can sincerely recommend it

Thanks for all the great replies to this thread, much appreciated. I guess I am now down to one more technical question, if anyone's still up on this thread. What (at least for FSX and gaming in general) is tolerable (or acceptable, or desired) for the lag/latency figure? I see some monitors as low as 2 Ms, many at 6-8 Ms, some at 12-14 Ms, and some higher. At what figure does one start to see the effects of this, and what does the effect actually look like? Assuming here a 120 Hz monitor. Thanks, Bruce.
I've noticed many 30'' monitors show 7ms response in the specs. I used to think 5ms was the max. limit for comfortable playing, but for example Dell U3011 has it at 7ms. Any comments? Thanks,Dirk.
