Has anyone had any luck boosting FPS in the VC with Photoshop?

I'm getting a smooth 30 (externally locked) outside, 25 on the 2D panel, but when I switch to VC it slows to a choppy 15 unless I look away from the panel. Turning towards the window brings it back up to 20-25. I've seen a few people mentioning reducing the texture resolution with PS. Has that helped, or do you think it would?

Going out and spending a thousand dollars sounds like a reasonable solution to you?
