Sudden frame drop

Recommended Posts

Hello again, i experience a sudden frame drop every (lets say) 20 seconds. from 30 (locked) down to 22, but in areas where the frames are only around 20 the drop goes down to 12 or less and it´s really annoying. I´ve tested it with two external limiters, with unlimited in FS and the FS limiter but it continues to drop as in the 2d panel, virtual cockpitnand even in the outside view and only with the NGX. (Well i was only able to test it with the Wilco PIC as it´s the only installed aircraft on my FSX beside the NGX. Is this a FSX bug? My specs DDR2 800 4GB KingstonGTX260Q9550 2,83 GHX Settings are all in a middle position. Alexander Schönegger

Alexander, Just a thought - do you have FSUIPC ? Maybe the autosave feature is on - I would turn it off! Also have you defragged your hard drive recently ?

Yes FSUIPC is installed but only the unregistred version, is there an autosave feature? No, until now never defragged, will give it a try. Alexander Schönegger

Also, take a look at the Introduction and ensure your following the recommendations.

Introduction settings are all applied. Defragmentation didn´t change anything. I´ve just seen that i´ve got automatic defragmentation every week. So with the unregistred FSUIPC version there is no autosave? The FPS still drop down every 20 seconds. It´s really frustrating. Sometimes they also jump higher then the locked setting. Any help? Ok so i uninstalled the whole FSX now and only installed the service packs and the NGX, turned every setting to the minimum but still the drop down to ca. 20 FPS. With the advanced FPS indication the average frame is at about 50 fps but the minimum always about 17. And this 17 causes the stutter. Everything is set as in the Introduction and tweaked with bojote´s page.Anyone? Alexander Schönegger

Does the drop happen when your mosue cursor is visible. Its just some people including me are reporting a drop in frames of around 10 when mouse cursor visible.

Yes that also happens to me. But the frame drop even occurs when the cursor is not visible. Every 15-20 seconds. Alexander Schönegger

Same here Alexander. It is a sudden drop in frame rate that I haven't tested is happening exactly at 20 sec, but it's about that frequent. It very much acts like a giant hard drive file load, however I don't see this with any other aircraft, including PMDG 747. DEFINITELY related to only the NGX. Otherwise, performance seems decent considering. I tried to run FILEMON.exe, however for some reason it won't run on my machine currently. Noel

Look in Task Manager | Processes. See if any other process you have running on your CPU is getting Higher CPU usage every 20 seconds. Look in Task Manager | Performance. Can you see something happening evey 20 seconds on any of the CPU Cores ? Geoff

Thx Geoff, will have a look on it tomorrow. Noel, we have about the same system GTX 260 and Q9550 so it may depend on this. p.s. what is "FILEMON.exe"? Alexander Schönegger

Do you have a wireless network card in your FSX computer for your internet connection? Some wireless network devices can cause exactly the symptom you are seeing... a momentary pause at regular intervals, which may only be evident when running a graphics/CPU intensive application like FSX.
