Question about entering wind on the FMC set-up

Recommended Posts

I've completed the first tutorial which did not involve wind/weather. I want to fly a flight with RW wx enabled. Does anyone know what I need to do differently (from the Tutorial) on the FMC setup?

EDIT: At a guess I'm saying I would enter the wind direction and speed prevailing where I am on the ground, is that right?

Normally the FMC computes the wind during flight, but you can enter wind in the legs page and in the climb, cruise and descent page. Also on the takeoff page enter the wind on the ground on page two. That is what I do normally, I don´t enter winds during cruise right now, because I don´t have a flightplanner like FSBuild which will display the winds on the route. I just use Topcat and Flightsim Commander for routeplanning and performance calculations. But take my words with a grain of salt....I am pretty new to flightsim in general and I am not as experienced as some folks here on this forum.

Programs like Active Sky will give you departure surface wind data and winds aloft (direction/speed/temperature) for your flight level to be entered into the FMC before deparurte .. helps with accurate fuel/burn (climb/cruise) trip planning, route eta'a (waypoint) / progress reporting/calculations.

Yes I would not want to muck about entering all the winds for each leg, in any case they are going to change. Hmm, it's just that initial setting that the tutorial specifically asked us to leave blank as there was no wind.

Winds aloft are not changing much over several waypoints.I pick divide my flight like in thirds then enter two enroute waypoints upper levels data before departure. Good enough for planning.
