August 9, 201114 yr Yes, the DV windows CAN be opened in flight, but the aircraft must be fully depressurized first. THere is no need for a lock to keep the window typically closed. Simple pressure on the surface from cabin pressurization does just fine. If I recall correctly, we had to typically get down to a 0.5 PSI differential or so before I was able to overcome the pressure and pry the window open.
