Attributes for a better monitor for the NGX

Featured Replies

Thanks for all the good replies to the threads that I have posted in the NGX forum prior to the release,http://forum.avsim.net/topic/340569-what-monitor-does-the-ngx-deserve/page__hl__brucek__fromsearch__1about the desirable features of a new monitor- worthy of the NGX, of course. I am now starting a new thread here in the General forum since I think that cluttering up the NGX forum with general hardware questions is not appropriate when people are looking for support on the best thing that has ever happened to FSX. I have learned a lot from where I started a week ago, but would like to capture any thoughts that anyone might have on the following. Given that an IPS 27” panel at 120 Hz, with W-LED backlighting and 2560X1440 seems an impossibility. But if I was to rank these attributes (since they appear to be mutually exclusive in total, or so it seems), from what I have learned so far, I would say:

  1. PC compatible (may rule out the Apple Cinema Display, not totally sure about this yet)
  2. 120 Hz refresh, not just for 3D.
  3. W-LED back-lighting (compared to CCFL)
  4. IPS panel (compared to TN panel)
  5. 2560X1440 (compared to 1080p)

If anyone has any further thoughts on this prioritization, bearing in mind that it’s FSX that it relates to (and Flight eventually, although we don’t know about that yet), I would love to hear from you. Thanks, looking forward to viewing the NGX on a better monitor and seeing even more on the already spectacular visuals! Bruce.
