Can an NG fly this SID?

Recommended Posts

Hello folks, as the magenta line started to behave a little weird when I played around once again, I was wondering if the FMS "thinks" it simply can't fly that SID. Understand it's maybe a special case as it requires tight turns at a maximum of 165 knots, and those "critial" waypoints are OVFY waypoints as well. If the NG could fly it though, what would be a correct procedure? I wouldn't be flying the whole departure with flaps out just to be able to fly that slow, would I? Not that it couldn't fly as slow as 165, we do that all the time right after takeoff. But still, I'm a little curious. Anyways, enjoy the dance as I would confuse the system with a few changing altitudes. sig.gif

Try it.. Yes, you'd need flaps to fly at 165 kts.. I need to look at the charts.. Weird SID..

Weird SID..
Yep and it's probably not the one you'd normally fly (there are other ones, non RNP), hence my question. sig.gif

I'm going to give it an attempt..

I had the same line dance programming the FMC from LGSM RWY 27 (SID URNIL). Strange..Themis KatakalosLGAV

Just flew the SID from RWY 26, takes a wider turn radius than depicted, but you can get close.. Staying at flaps 15 is a good idea ...

I will try that one.

That's what I thought, but climb gradient will be quite a tad less too. Speed wise yes, that would make sense. But would that be a valid procedure? You'd be going quite high with the flaps extended... sig.gif

You can have flaps extended up to 20,000 feet..

I sure know you can, I'm just wondering about performance/(SO-)procedural considerations. sig.gif EDIT Well the req'd gradients here are 7% for the first short straight ahead part and thereafter 5% up to that last critical overfly waypoint after the tight turn. This is still "only" about 1000 fpm even at 200 knots or ~750 at 150 knots, so for 165 knots it will be something in between. Too lazy for the math atm but that's not the point here, so anyways more importantly, this should still be possible with flap 15, gradient wise. Now I just want to know if that would be an orthodox way of doing it.
