Recommended Posts

Should I get LGA 1366 or 1156? Intel Core i7-980 Nehalem 3.33GHz 6 x 256KB L2 Cache 12MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Six-Core Desktop Processor BX80613I7980 ? Intel Core i7-970 Gulftown 3.2GHz 6 x 256KB L2 Cache 12MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Six-Core Desktop Processor BX80613I7970 ? Intel Core i7-960 Bloomfield 3.2GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80601960 ? Which processor and set up will give me the most FPS. I already know which Graphics card I am getting. Thanks!

All the cpu you listed was the first gen of i7. You should get the second generation i7, LGA 1155. The i7 2600K 3.4ghz overclock really well and you'll very good performance in FSX. Tommy Tse

Like the two said above me. I came from an i7 960, like the one you listed, to my signature machine. There was actually a big difference and it was a true upgrade! Besides that, an 1155 machine will be cheaper. BTW, those 970s and 980s are overpriced as far as FSX goes. What GPU are you planning on, Tom?

1366 or 1156? You should definitely be getting an 1155 cpu. If you were planning to spend that much then you should probably get a 2011 socket cpu coming out soon. And don't forget GPU.

I also would recommend a 25/600k, I upgraded a little before the SB chips came out to a i7950 and wish i had waited now, the 9xx series are great but the SB chips are better.

Agree. My 2500k, for $200 is a beast. should be worth more like $250 but even that is underkill.

Have a look at my sig. I upgraded FROM a C2D E6850 with an nVidia 8800GTS. I did nun the NGX on that, but only just. This upgrade has more than doubled my FSX performance. In my opinion (and that's ALL it is), I don't believe the the giant step up to mighty 580 is needed for FSX alone. If you play other games, it's another story. I tried an i5 2500k before installing the i7. They both overclock brilliantly BUT... I definately have a SMOOTHER sim using the i7.
