Formula One

Recommended Posts

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the FIA have taken the easy way out with respect to the new rules in Formula One ? Personally, I would have liked to have seen another suggestion implemented. This was that each driver would race for every team for the first ten races. Now THAT would sort out who was the best driver. Sadly, this hasn't happened. So, let's have a look at what HAS changed.THE FIRST EIGHT PLACES WILL WIN POINTS..........So what ? Will this change anything ? No, it won't. The best cars will still win, which means Schumacher and Barrichello.TWO QUALIFYING SESSIONS, WITH ONLY ONE LAP FOR EACH DRIVER IN BOTH.........Granted, this will make a decent first lap imperative. However, will it really change anything in the races themselves ? I doubt it. Even if Michael Schumacher starts 22nd on the grid (more unlikely than a sunny day in Britain), he will still be in the top 4 after two laps.TEAM ORDERS THAT AFFECT THE RESULT ARE BANNED..........Again, so what ? This should have been done years ago, but the FIA were too afraid of challenging the top teams (and more specifically, their owners). This will not affect ANYTHING as far as the racing is concerned. So there you have it. Formula One will remain the boring sport that it has become until someone actually has the guts to do something positive. Forcing each driver to drive for a different team in every race would have SOLVED the problem. So why hasn't this been done ?I'll leave you to work that one out.Chris Low,ENGLAND.

Chris, I honestly don't bother to watch anymore. We all know who is going to win nine times out of ten. It has no appeal left when you know who is going to win. Dare I say it but the WWF holds more surprises lately than FIA.JMHO,CF-AOA

You're right. Formula One isn't worth watching anymore........but I would start watching it again if each driver had to race at least once a season for each team. That would make the racing interesting, and stop drivers like Michael Schumacher winning the world championship title by default. Granted, he is probably the best driver in Formula One, but winning the title by racing for the best team EVERY YEAR is hardly a challenge, now is it ?Chris Low,ENGLAND.

Chris,Personally I wish they would make the cars harder to drive (without making them dangerous). Bring back manual gearboxes, get rid of the electronic drivers aids, and put more emphasis on the driver's skill rather than the car.Iain Spowart,Scotland.Webmaster and photographer,Scottish Rockettes Dance SquadOfficial Web-Sitehttp://avsim.iainspowart.com/rockettes.jpghttp://www.scottishrockettes.comhttp://www.claymorescheerleaders.comhttp://www.iainspowart.com

yep,Schumacher is the best, but there will be no more Spa Francochamps (his favourite circuit)starting from next year due to a restriction on tabac commercialisation here in Belgium

Wouldn't it be better to even the playing field up a little so that the fastest cars have to carry extra weight or other slowing device?I find F1 very boring. Some of the lower formula races are very exciting, simply because all the cars are matched more evenly. Touring cars especially! And then there's formula Ford, 3000, etc. Much better racing, allround.Cheers,Simon.

Simon,Touring Car races were even better before they got rid of half of the top group of cars, and then stuck another group in the same race.Sometimes I wonder if these motor sport governing bodies have any clue at all about how to make races enjoyable. Personally, I don't think that they care anymore. So long as their annual pay cheques run into seven figures, then they couldn't care less about the "entertainment value".Chris Low,ENGLAND.

In fact, that was proposed by the FIA but Ferrari threatened to pull out of the competition (stating unfairness towards them) if it was implemented so the FIA had to drop it for marketting reasons (Ferrari is a major source of income).

So why didn't they implement the ONE suggestion that would have levelled the playing field ? If every driver had to race at least once for each team in the course of a season, it would have made Formula One interesting again. As it stands, next year will be just as boring as this one.Someone in Formula One stated that next year will be a "vintage year". I have only two words to offer in response to that ridiculous comment.FAT CHANCE.Chris Low,ENGLAND.

Don't know what this has to do with flight sim, but I haven't watched F1 is a few years. As you say, too boring. F1 has become nothing more than an ultra expensive technical exhibition for car designers and little more than a procession on the track. F1A is not concerned in the least about putting on a good race.If they were really interested in racing, I would have them get rid of down force all together (imagine having to brake for a corner again before getting 50 yards from the apex) and make the tires much skinnier. This would make the braking (and thus passing zones) much bigger and we might actually be rewarded with a pass on the track as a result. Driver skill would once again be primary as opposed to which car you were driving. I would also go back to the old days and have no pit stops. I think the only reason they have them now is that it is the ONLY way to pass anymore.Check Six !!!!!Rick

For all you guys who said Schumacher is the best and the rest have to get better...Give my countryman Montoya 5 laps against Schumy and have them swap cars. Schumy gets to chose the course. Then we'll see who has to get better! :~PMauricioBucaramanga, Colombia

Mauricio,It would be nice to see the true driving skills of each driver tested, rather than the technical merits of the cars themselves. I agree that Juan Pablo Montoya is a very good driver, and I would love to see him (and the rest) tested against Michael Schumacher in a far more even contest. As it stands, Formula One is a joke. The problem here is that the FIA are probably making far too much money at the moment to care.Chris Low,ENGLAND.

" If every driver had to race at least once for each team in the course of a season, it would have made Formula One interesting again "Oustanding idea ! I would actually watch them, now its just Nascar at our house.I'm thinking it would make the manufacturers championship interesting for once. Ferrari probably still wins, but because each maker has wide variety of drivers over a season, well then if Ferrari does still win it pretty much means even more glory to Ferrari that way. == WHK ==
