January 1, 200422 yr Hi all and HAPPY NEW YEAR! I was just reading the thread on the pros and cons of FSFORCE and I noted the statement by GTSWANNY in his post on the use of a MSFF2 joystick "AND" CH rudder pedals! I had NO IDEA this was possible! About two years ago I bought the CH "gameport" rudder pedals(without researching that I also needed their yoke)and they have never been used(read collecting dust!)because I actually prefere the joystick! If at all possible could you help me with this MSFF2 joystick to CH "gameport" rudder pedal setup? My computer is a Dell 8250 with XP and NO GAMEPORT slots! I have read their is an adapter for gameport to USB sold at Radio Shack but where do I go from there? THANK YOU! JUKEBOX "SOMEDAY I WILL FLY IN A REAL B-17"!!!
January 1, 200422 yr My computer came with no gameport, too. I solved the problem by installing a Soundblaster sound card with a gameport on it. I had a dedicated gameport board (from CH, I think) on my previous machine, but that was for ISA slots only and the new box only had PCI slots available. (Yes, the old machine has a 5-and-a-quarter floppy drive on it, too.) I didn't find a PCI gameport board in my brief search.I'm using the CH pedals with the CH yoke, both of which are still working fine after quite a few years of use.
January 1, 200422 yr Captain, Thanks for the response!I feel confident(fingers crossed)I can figure this out and any help I can get, believe me, I can use! I do have another question I would like to ask if I may? How do you like the CH yoke? The reason I ask is I have been considering buying one(if for instance I cannot MATE my MSFF2 joystick with my CH pedals)!I believe they are about $100 dollars(U.S.)which is a considerable purchase!I know they don,t support FF but that is no problem! Thanks for your help! JUKEBOX "SOMEDAY I WILL FLY IN A REAL B-17"
January 1, 200422 yr You can plug in a gameport card in an empty PCI slot. I have one that includes the gameport and two USB slots. Also you can use a sound card with gameport. I use a CH Pro joystick. This has 4 buttons, a 4-way hat and throttle. I also have CH standard pedals. The pedals and joystick form a "Y" and plug into gameport. I have a CH Yoke and it is fine but a hassel to set up and take down when computer used for other things. With joystick it is easy to move. I prefer the standard pedals to the pro (more expensive). The standard is a pedal like a gas pedal and the pro is a pedal that moves back and forward (like real plane).
January 2, 200422 yr I'm very happy with my CH yoke. Besides the wheel, it's got a batch of buttons which can be easily programmed to assume various FS functions, like gear, flaps, mixture, etc., and a hat which allows you to rotate viewpoints easily. It has a pair of clamps to attach it to your desktop in front of the monitor. You should arrange things so that you can remove it and stash it under the table when you're not using it, because it kind of gets in the way if you're doing anything other than simming. (There was a thread a few years ago where one user said it was also great for Quake and similar games.) My little girl figured out how to remove it years ago when she wanted to play HER games. They give you ample cable length, too.
January 2, 200422 yr Hi Captain Barfbag and Cliffp, I want to thank both of you! You both have been very helpful! The CH yoke sounds very promising and I,m considering it in the very near future. Reviews to me are sometimes "slanted" and I,ve found that owners opinions of products I,m interested in IMO are far more beneficial! Also I checked my sound card and it has a gameport! I pluged my gameport connection from my pedals into this but my computer does not recognize new hardware. I believe the other connection from my pedals(joystick gameport connection)MUST be connected to my MSFF2 joystick(I,ll try a gameport to USB adaper).Anyway, I,ll try different configurations useing my NEWLY DISCOVERED soundcard gameport and adapter I,ll purchase and hopefully get it to work! BOTTOMLINE,THANKS GUYS!!! JUKEBOX "SOMEDAY I WILL FLY IN A REAL B-17"
January 2, 200422 yr Jukebox.... I'm running a USB joystick paired with a set of standard CH pedals. You're right in that the pedals have to be connected to something in order for the computer to "see" them. What I did is I plugged my pedals into an old, plain, two-button CH flightstick through the sound card gameport. I then connected my Saitek Cyborg USB joystick to my USB port. Windows (98Se) "sees" both joysticks, and in the Game Controller settings, I mark the little box for "rudder pedals." Then in FS2K2, I assign the rudder pedals to the proper axis but assign everything else to my Saitek stick. It works fine.... I fly helos exclusively in FS.I've had the pedals for at least five years and never had any trouble with them. They also work fine if you have any driving simulations installed, such as NASCAR. Good luck with whatever combination you end up with.-Lindy
January 2, 200422 yr Lindy, I read your informative reply first thing this morning. I had an old MSFF1 joystick(gameport) which I kept when I mistakenly "thought" I had to buy a MSFF2 for XP(DUH) when I bought my new computer about six months ago!Hindsite is 20/20 I guess! Anyway, I took your suggestion and pluged the old joystick into my rudder pedals and then my computer after first buying a UBS to gameport adapter.I HAVE TO SAY IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!! Thanks to you, Captain Barfbag, and Cliffp I now have working rudder pedals! The only thing I had to do is recalibrate them! (The only problem is the toe brakes, but I,m sure thats something I,ll figure out)! Again I really appreciate all your help!!! P.S. For years I was intimidated about posting because I have read several sarcastic and nasty responses on various threads BUT after this experience "I HAVE NOTHING BUT GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT YOU FOLKS"! THANKS AGAIN!FLY SAFE! JUKEBOX "SOMEDAY I WILL FLY IN A REAL B-17"
