How to OC (i5 2500K and Z68X-UD3P-B3) ?

Featured Replies

I suppose you're going to tell me I need to experiment with the individual motherboard and CPU that I have. That's fine because I have no idea what settings to even try to tweak anyway. The last thing I over clocked was my heart and that was only when I saw Phoebe Cates in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High". So needless to say, any help would be greatly appreciated. I am in possession of a Core i5 2500k, a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P-B3, and 8gb of G.Skill Ripjaws-X DDR3 2133 memory. I'm not sure what video card to get but any advice on that would be well received. So please advise and thanks for any help :)MarkBTW...my signature...that's my other system...

I have the exact same parts so this is what I did. First I disabled Turbo boost, C1E, C3 and C6 State support, CPU thermal monitor, CPU SIST function and Bi-Directional PROCHOT. Then I put the multiplier to 40x then ran a stress test. Nothing really needs to be done with the voltage at 40x. Then what you should do is start playing with the voltage if you find it a bit instable, don't go past 1.35 is what I have been told. If you have it fully stable start to increase it in 100MHz increments. This is what I did, the system is stable but FSX, not so good.Stick with your old GPU.

Thanks again! I wonder if we're using the same parts because we're in the same region of the world! (Except that I hang with the crims in Sydney these days :)Also, thanks for the advice on the GPU. You know, I might be inclined to get the Super Over clocked version of it because they're starting to be available locally. (I actually was considering a trip home to Santa Monica California to send some stuff back but now...)So that's all you have to do...hummm...I'll give it a whirl as soon as I pickup my new video card. Does your CPU Cooler do a good job...I mean, what kind of temps are you seeing?Mark

i wouldn't bother, just manually OC it.

I cannot tell you about OC'ing your CPU , why do you want to OC ? Are you not getting performance in FSX ?

I'm not going to pull the TI from the XP32 system. It needs to stay intact in case I need to use it. So, (unfortunately), I need to buy another card. The super over clocked TI seems like a good bargain but would love comments to justify a GTX580.

If there is someone out there who wouldn't want more speed and better frame rates while using X then that person is probably already OCing their box!Mark

560TI for the bang for buck option but the ASUS GTX 570 Directcu ii is a great overclocker and would easily reach speeds of a GTX 580. Speaking of overclocking it, I have to use ASUS smart doctor cos it has a custom PCB but when I restart the system, it goes back to default settings, anyone know how to fix this?

LOL yaya my box has been OC'ed , I thought that I should ask you if you were having any performance issues as there were no details on the performance in your post.

How do you overclock a box?
