I won't make any new threads for a while, but having a problem :(

Recommended Posts

Hey all, Last new thread I promise! Every so often FSX is crashing (full pc crash, not recoverable) and my speakers make a high pitched squeel! Any idea whether this is FSX or PMDG? doesn;t happen in any other apps! cheers :)

What are your system specs? A full blown hard lockup of the entire machine like that is almost always hardware related. Bad RAM, an unstable overclock, a fan that stopped spinning on the CPU or GPU etc...

Hmm I see. Well, specs are as follows:4gb DD3 ram @ 1333mhzgtx 460 1gb @ stockCore i5 760 2.8ghz OCd to 3.5ghz on stock voltage. It seemed stable using intel burn test, but perhaps it's a voltage problem. I will add a bit more maybe!

Can you try setting defaults in the cmos and check. Yeah you should use Linx / prime95 / OCCT.

Cheers guys. It's my first overclock so I've upped the voltage a little and lowered the clock to 3.4ghz. Hopefully I won't lose out on too much fps! Will see if it's more stable now, and run a test over night.

Intel burntest is actually pretty harsh. I like it.

Hey guys, Basically I was running 3,5ghz on the default voltage...Thought it was too good to be true! Upped volts by 0.040 (half way between the motherboards "I want to burn things but your CPU WILL BE STABLE" setting, and the default....first off, the CPUBURNTEST results were finishing about 15 seconds faster, second results, up about 7fps (from 18 to 25) at a packed UK2000 Gatwick!! I'd have thought an undervolted CPU would just crash rather than give me poor performance!! Have to also say, this forum has the BEST support ever. Actual game developers and many forum experts all helping. It seems the world of high fidelity airliner simulation is a nice place to be :) Also, because of the support and customer care shown here, I will buy all the PMDG aircrafts on payday. Learn them all? Likely not, but I will buy them! Thanks so much
