Application To Add Service Based Time To NGX To Simulate Other Flights

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine agreed to make a simple application that will add simulated time to the Service Based Failure system of the NGX, thus simulating the aircraft being flown by other pilots. So, I would like to know what the logged entries mean in the ini files so that he can write a program to add time and maybe other variables to the specific ini files for aircraft in the fleet. Could someone please explain the following... Well, does anyone know what the log entries represent? I know one of em must be time logged since maint, but it would be nice to know what the entire log records. JB

This is a great idea. Can't help you in the slightest right now as I am ignorant of what any of those entries specifically relates to. Of course trial and error could always be used to figure it out, but that would be one painful and labourous task. I would suggest trying to get in touch with PMDG directly and see if they are willing to help you out there. I for one hope they would.

They are all logged time since maintenance. That is apparent from the fact that the first number is identical across the range. The second number is, i guess, when funny things start to happen if the plane hasn't been serviced.

the Katana Diamond has a wear and tear option that makes the aircraft behave as if it was being used by a flying club, so that it was always in a very diffrent state to simulate its being flown other people. Just like an Airliner is flown by more than crew. (unless its a really small airline!) Something like this for the 737 would be cool.

I had a bit investigated in this things, yes... I made an Excel sheet and you could download it here:http://www.megaupload.com/?d=90V6S8CL on the upper right side of the sheet you can input the hours, your aircraft is already flown. All items will be updated then to that hours. You can also edit the single systems and add a multiplicator of service time, e.g. engines 3 times service time... BUT:this is all under investigation!!! I have flown around a bit and got some failures so it seems to work After you have entered your time, you have to export it!I have exported as CSV, after thah you have to delete all ";" (semicolons); in other words you have to bring into the style like the original cfg has...I use InDesign for search and delete and copy it then into the cfg ... but I think other programs could that do also. Please do not ask me "how will that work etc"... I don't think it is too difficult. And its never meant to be a public "tool" Beside this, I have gathered and marked all the systems, so a good programmer of such a "simulate other pilots" tool will find this helpful!Have a look into this Excel sheet and you will understand! What I have found how the NGX config works:What you see there as numbers are seconds.Entering e.g. Run Timer.94=0 means, that you have a fresh serviced NGXRun Timer.94=900000 means on this system are 250 hours (260 hours are 900000 seconds (for the non-mathematicals) The first 15 failure groups show the system hours in the FMC if you go into maintenance. But they have no impact on the system failures... so setting 900000 here will mean nothing, but you see "service now" (if the system has a 250 hours service range) the following failure items trigger the failures. Each system has an own number (as you can see in the excel sheet) Run Timer.109=24912.540316 13184735.000000 the first, red number is also the seconds, how long the NGX is running. The blue one is the time after that a failure is happening. But I do not know where these second numbers get generated ... must be something random. So I just took the second number from one of my NGX.cfg's I hope these explainings and the findings in the excel sheet could help someone to create such a tool!I would really appreciate such a tool! If someone is building one and like to contact me, feel free to PM!

I was sure that in an interview with fsbreak PMDG said that the mean time to failure/service interval calculations were adjusted to produce realistic failures taking into account other aircrews flying. If this was this case, wouldn't using this produce failures at an accelerated/unrealistic rate?Either that or I'm totally barking up the wrong tree. If I am wrong though... It's a neat idea.

I'm aware that this is highly unrealistic ... But beside this I would like to see it as a great training tool, as you always have to check if the "virtual" NGX pilot before you has set everything right or if there's sth not 100% And to have a worn out plane is also unrealistic, yes.... but I really do not have the time in my life to get 250 hours on this plane ...And I really like to see what happens if ...

Oh I see... :-) A way to find out what happens when you get close to the service period when you don't have time to fly 250 hours.Cool!

Or PMDG implements an option to accelerate them: best would be a user defined factor (x1, x2, x3 ... x10 ...x50 faster wearing) for each livery separate ...
