Any way of keeping 2D panel popups in place in a view?

Recommended Posts

Is there any way to keep the 2D panels in a particular view when you cycle out and back again? I am finding it a bit tricky, say on final, when there are a couple of key 2D panels open, when I need to toggle to FO side, e.g. to set CMD B ... then back to Capt side, the 2D panels have disappeared and I have to zoom out to find them again and click them on. If it doesn't already exist, would be good if "Views" could have optional "2D panel memories"? Advance apologies if I've missed something in my reading of the manuals! Thanks. Best wishes, David

davidlondon, Yes you have. I have created a change in the "panel.cfg" file located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\PMDG 737-800NGX\panel. Just change [Window08] by the one below and any time you use Shift+9 it will create a pop-up a zoomed view of the 3 main captain displays : [Window08]file_1024=PMDG_NGX_main_wide.bmpsize_mm=1920, 1200window_size= 1.000, 1.000position=7visible=0ident=MAIN_PANELgauge00=PMDG_737NGX!CaptainGlareshieldEdge, 684, 410, 1236, 26, MAINgauge01=PMDG_737NGX!LeftGlareshieldEdge, 304, 414, 380, 89, MAINgauge02=PMDG_737NGX!LeftGlareshieldEdge1, 219, 503, 236, 98, MAINgauge03=PMDG_737NGX!CaptainColumn, 1476, 0, 230, 410, MAINgauge04=PMDG_737NGX!ClockSwitch, 0, 520, 219, 157, MAIN//gauge05=PMDG_737NGX!ChronometerPanel, 0, 667, 219, 523, L #1 MAINgauge06=PMDG_737NGX!DU, 0, 600, 640, 599, LEFT_OUTBD #1 MAINgauge07=PMDG_737NGX!DU, 640, 600, 640, 599, LEFT_INBD #2 MAINgauge08=PMDG_737NGX!DU, 1280, 600, 640, 599, UPPER #3 MAIN//gauge09=PMDG_737NGX!Standby, 1122, 601, 221, 599, MAIN//gauge10=PMDG_737NGX!GearPanel, 1796, 601, 123, 599, MAIN//gauge11=PMDG_737NGX!DSP_Captain, 219, 601, 903, 175, MAIN//gauge12=PMDG_737NGX!MainMisc, 1343, 602, 453, 175, MAINgauge13=PMDG_737NGX!MasterCautionSystem_Captain,455, 503, 229, 98, MAINgauge14=PMDG_737NGX!EFIS_Captain, 684, 436, 285, 165, MAINgauge15=PMDG_737NGX!MCP, 969, 436,1099, 165, MAINgauge16=PMDG_737NGX!LightSensor, 0, 0, 4, 4 Regards, Adenilson

Add the line "type=special" to the window section in the panel.cfg you want to stay open when you switch views and then the only way it will close is when you tell it to, either by using the right mouse button context menu or with a toggle panel command set to a joystick button for example. I use the same technique to keep my moving map gauge open all the time and just use a joystick button to toggle it on and off as I please. It will stay open no matter what view you switch to, even tower view for example.Reading the OPs post again this may not be what you want but it's a neat trick to know anyway.

Cheers, Andy.

Andy ... Thanks, that is a very useful tip! One that will surely be put to use soon on my aircraft.

Thanks everyone. This all sounds good. Much appreciated. Haven't yet had time to try out your solutions, but what I really have in mind is being able to preserve an ad hoc display of 2D panels (i.e. just PFD sometimes or Engines only next to HGS, positioned in different places in different views to avoid obscuring remaining knobs and switches) on Capt side, but for these panels to disappear when I toggle to Outside view for a quick screenshot of the perfect scene! Then, when I switch back to Capt side for those one or two or three 2ds to be exactly where I left them, until I toggle them off. Point is they should also disappear if switch to FO side but reappear just as I left them when I revert to Capt side (if you see what I mean!!). Maybe something PMDG could consider - if it's technically possible - at some point in the future anyway. [Just completed a totally successful flight in every way - the quality and richness of the NGX is deeply impressive. One day, perhaps even the favoured corporate gift from Boeing management to clients and business partners!!] Best wishes, David
