Plane crashes into ground after start of RC

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! First of all if think RC is a superb add-on and I'm using it for a couple of years now...But this week I encountered a problem new to me. When I start a new flight (FSX) my aircraft is parked at its departure gate, but as soon as I start RC it tries to reposition my aircraft on the airport and crashes it into ground every time... This happens at several airports and with different aircraft. How can this problem be solved? Thx!

is your aircraft parked at the gate, of the airport the plan rc is using for the departure airport? this usually happens when rc moves the plane because you aren't where the plan says you're going to be jd

Yes, I usually create a flight plan (and parking spot) with FSX, start the simulation and use the same plan with RC. I don't know why RC now wants to move the aircraft because it didn't act like this before.

If you did a scenery rebuild and you have FS9 and FSX installed, for RCv4X be sure you used the FSX path when rebuilding, not the FS9 one as airport coordinates can change. Can you place a paste of your flight plan in a reply here? Just open the plan in a wordpad (right click on the .pln file and use open With) and then copy/paste to your reply. Also, what is your departure airport ICAO? Finally be sure makerwys.exe version 4.50 is installed in your FS folder. Then from within RC do the scenery rebuild. Finally in RCv4X\data, right click on a4.csv and open with that text editor. Search for the ICAO of that airport, then copy/paste that line into the same reply. While you are in RCv4X\data get the date-time stamp from r4.csv and a4.csv to insure they match your build date. If RC and FS do not reside on the same PC, in other words an FS host with RC on a client over WideFS, then you must run makerwys directly in your FS folder and then run RC on the client stating Yes to the question about running on WideFS then continuing to put in your network path to FS when asked. Data from the flight plan and from that line in a4.csv will give a clue about possible mismatched locations.

Thanks, I don't have FS9 installed but my makerwys.exe was old so I downloaded the new version 4.50. Additionally RC and FSX are located on the same PC, so I don't use WideFS. Your .pln and the RC airport coordinates are very close. I don't think they are fart enough away for RC to move your aircraft. Your .pln file shows KMIA at 25d 47' 25"N 80d 16' 9"WRC a4 converts to 25d 47' 54"N 80d 17' 29" W (using FS9 data)FSbuild shows N25° 47' 43.00" , W80° 17' 24.00" (FSB data) Your longitude is about 40" off but I think that might be OK. RC allows a two or three mile deviation before it moves an aircraft. Now, to confirm, you just loaded a .pln into RC, not an .rcd saved file, correct? I didn't put in all of your waypoints but you can try loading this plan into RC to see how it works: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?><SimBase.Document Type="AceXML" version="1,0"> <Descr>AceXML Document</Descr> <FlightPlan.FlightPlan> <Title>KMIA to KJFK</Title> <FPType>IFR</FPType> <RouteType>HighAlt</RouteType> <CruisingAlt>35000</CruisingAlt> <DepartureID>KMIA</DepartureID> <DepartureLLA>N25° 47' 43.00" , W80° 17' 24.00",</DepartureLLA> <DestinationID>KJFK</DestinationID> <DestinationLLA>N40° 38' 23.00" , W73° 46' 44.00",</DestinationLLA> <Descr>KMIA, KJFK</Descr> <DeparturePosition>13L</DeparturePosition> <DepartureName>MIAMI_INTL</DepartureName> <DestinationName>JOHN_F.KENNEDY_INTL</DestinationName> <AppVersion> <AppVersionMajor>10</AppVersionMajor> <AppVersionBuild>60905</AppVersionBuild> </AppVersion> <ATCWaypoint id="KMIA"> <ATCWaypointType>Airport</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N25° 47' 43.00",W80° 17' 24.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>KMIA</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="VKZ"> <ATCWaypointType>VOR</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N25° 45' 06.00",W80° 09' 15.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>VKZ</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="LONNI"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N26° 23' 01.00",W79° 58' 35.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>LONNI</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="HEATT"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N26° 29' 27.00",W79° 56' 46.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>HEATT</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="BLUFI"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N26° 53' 37.00",W79° 49' 53.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>BLUFI</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="TARPO"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N27° 47' 06.00",W79° 34' 28.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>TARPO</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="RSNIK"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N28° 07' 54.00",W79° 28' 24.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>RSNIK</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="HOBEE"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N29° 13' 20.00",W79° 09' 04.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>HOBEE</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="LOTUS"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N29° 46' 31.00",W79° 01' 10.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>LOTUS</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="TORRY"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N30° 25' 19.00",W78° 51' 49.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>TORRY</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="METTA"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N32° 26' 31.00",W78° 25' 08.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>METTA</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="VILLS"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N39° 18' 03.00",W75° 06' 37.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>VILLS</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="JOANI"> <ATCWaypointType>Intersection</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N40° 18' 14.00",W74° 06' 30.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>JOANI</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> <ATCWaypoint id="KJFK"> <ATCWaypointType>Airport</ATCWaypointType> <WorldPosition>N40° 38' 23.00",W73° 46' 44.00",</WorldPosition> <ICAO> <ICAOIdent>KJFK</ICAOIdent> </ICAO> </ATCWaypoint> </FlightPlan.FlightPlan></SimBase.Document> I think you have to send a log in to give jd details. The flight plan is a .pln and not a .rcd file. I tried your flight plan and the result was a crash too upon start of RC, additionally just after starting FSX the aircraft was not parked at its gate but somewhere on intersecting taxiways. RC created a short log, this is it: debug onRC Version 4.3.3845 June 6, 2006C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\rcv4x\rcv4.exe<fs2kplanner> C:\Users\Username\Documents\Flight Simulator One additional item to check, after starting FSX and before loading RC, check FSUIPC to make sure it has loaded properly. Bob

FSUIPC is available from the menu bar, so I think it's running!? I gave it another try, selected ronzie's flight plan and started RC while in slew mode. My aircraft got repositioned (only several yards away) instead of crashing...

Slew mode? By itself that can start moving an aircraft and crash it. It has to do with your controller accuracy. In addition note that in FSX assignments they are separate for normal and slew modes. You don't want to start FSX in slew mode. If RC does move your aircraft it switches to slew mode until it is finished moving it. Where is your flight plan data coming from? My a4.csv is extracted from FS9 - sorry, don't have FSX - but my planner is external to FSX/FS9 and uses AIRAC data. Since in your last test the aircraft was only moved a few yards I suspect that the differences noted in longitude might be your problem being on a boundary. You also state that in starting FSX and loading your flight, without starting RC, that the aircraft is sitting on a taxiway intersection. So let's try this:Start FSX and load your FSX default flight. Be sure it is not in slew mode. That default flight always initializes FSX before you even get to FSX menus. If it is in slew mode take it out of slew mode and save it. It is best if you create a new flight of a default aircraft such as the King Air parked at a gate of a default airport with engines off and using the clear-weather theme. Parking brake should be on and slew mode off. Battery should be off if you do not have a registered FSUIPC with the 'magic battery' feature turned on (which extends the life of the battery without it running down before the generators come up). Save this as your default flight. Next check your control calibration in Windows. Then start up FSX and go to axis assignments for both normal and then slew mode. There should be a little bit of null area to get rid of non-return to zero issues and sensitivity should not be at max for some of them. If set correctly switching to slew mode without touching your controls should not move the aircraft. This is just in case slew mode is engaged either by you or an application. Be sure any of your FSX saved flights that you recall have not been saved in SLEW mode. Initially your parking brake should be on. Some add-on planners only see scenery added to the Add-on Scenery folder of FS when they extract their data from FS scenery and do not use your scenery.cfg file paths (as makerwys does for RC databases). If a scenery is not detected by this planner utility and it is not in the same location as the default, in this instance the planner airport coordinates will be different than the scenery location. RC calculates the airport coordinates using a method that derives them from the runway coordinates of all of your installed scenery in scenery.cfg priority order. This results in the a4.csv file which RC uses to compare with your departure airport coordinates in your flight plan. If they are not close enough your aircraft may get moved. These are some of the things that need checking. To observe the coordinates of real world airports most can be found at wikipedia by entering the ICAO code as search criteria. You can also search by airport name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Pagehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miami_International_Airport and you'll find coordinates, elevation, and runway information summarized in the right hand column. I used that as a cross check as well and it was very close to my plan and RC a4.csv data. Summarizing, you state that it is only happening a certain airports, not all. This leads me to the conclusion of a discrepancy between your flight planner and the scenery data extracted by RC. It is also possible that an airport designer might have moved an airport as some do and if your planner data does not detect that new location it will conflct with RC's data.

When I mention FSUIPC just not in the addon menu, but make sure when you open it it recognizes your plane. Bob

can you send me the log, it's hard to read it when posted that way. just to confirm, your plane, is at the gate, clock ticking on the panel, fs ready to fly, not in slew mode, not paused - when you click the start rc button? and the .pln you load into rc, has the starting point at the same airport your plane is parked at. jd

@ ronzie: I set up a new default flight as you recommended and have not observed any crashes since then. That's strange because I don't know what exactly changed.... I only used slew mode as a test to prevent RC from crashing my aircraft into the ground during the past few days and I don't use an external planner or add-on airport scenery, but add-on aircraft. @ bobbyjoh: FSUIPC is running, but I replaced an older version with the current v 4.70, maybe that helped. @ jd: I'll send you the log. The plane was parked at the gate, engines running, with FS not paused or in slew mode. I started RC after FS finished loading the flight and the scenery. The .pln was created using FSX and when prompted I always select to position the plane according to the selected flight plan. Thanks for your help!

"The .pln was created using FSX and when prompted I always select to position the plane according to the selected flight plan." Do not select position the aircraft when you load a flight plan into FSX. Don't let the GPS reposition the aircraft. If for some reasons the coordinate is off that will skew you aircraft somewhere according to your plan coordinates that may not be correct. When you create a flight just select where you want to park it. Then set up the aircraft in the state you want with clear weather them. Also pick a date and time for the flight. Then save that flight with a descriptive title. One of mine is:KMSP B737NG-700W SPRING DAY TRS GATE H9as an example. Then when you load that flight it will be where you chose to park it with your selected environment and (most) of the aircraft state. Please also now update from here:http://forum.simflig...pdated-modules/to FSUIP4.727. Quite a few things were fixed since 4.70.

turns out, the user's departure barometric pressure was 0. so was the arrival barometric pressure. i think once that is fixed, the plane won't be falling out of the sky, to the gate. jd
